My humble Pranams at the Lotus Feet of our beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

The Sathya Sai Centre of Seremban with Swami’s grace and guidance is progressing in the right direction in carrying out Swami’s Mission. We are blessed with a meaningful and useful building to enable us to carry out the activities of the Centre. The theme as suggested the Central Council of Malaysia for this year’s celebrations is “Sai Mission and its Continuity”. Thus, we (the leaders, the coordinators and as well the devotees) are duty bound to serve with utmost commitment and dedication in carrying out HIS Mission. “Love All, Serve All” – this should be embedded into our minds and UNITY should always prevail and be the deciding factor.

The core activity of the Centre is the Education in Human Values(SSE classes). We are fortunate to have with us 12 Gurus in carrying out the SSE classes (group 1 till 4) involving about 120 children. Laying a strong foundation in human values would enable the SSE students to a become lawful, obedient citizen with concept of caring and sharing taking a forefront.

The Spiritual and Service activities also contribute a lot towards the Centre’s annual output while the Mahilas are a force to reckon with in the Centre activities.

I take this opportunity to thank all devotees, residents of Taman Permai and well-wishers for their attendance, contributions and participations in the activities carried out by the Centre. To the Organizing Committee of this year’s Swami’s Birthday Celebrations a big thank you for your untiring efforts and sacrifice.

We pray for Swami’s continued Blessing, Love and Guidance.

Jai Sai Ram Yours in SAI Service

Quit Worrying: Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over little thing that comes your way?

Put it on the List: Something needs done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No, not yours list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to take care of the problem. I can't help you until you turn it over to ME. And although MY to-do-list is long, I am after all …………God. I can take care of anything you put into MY hands, In fact, if the truth were ever really known, I take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.

Trust ME: Once you have given your burdens to ME, quit trying to take them back. Trust in ME. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs, your problems and your trials. Problems with the kids? Put them on MY list. Problem with finances? Put it on My list. Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put it on My list. I want to help you. All you have to do is ask.

Leave it Alone: Don't wake up in morning and say, "Well, I am feeling much stronger now, I think I can handle it from here." Why do you think you are feeling stronger now? It is simple. You gave Me your burdens and I am taking care of them. I also renew your strength and cover you in My peace. Don't you know that if I give you these problems back, you will be right back where you started? Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just let Me do my job.

TEN GUIDELINES FROM SWAMI

Talk to Me: I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making you crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because you know I am in control. But there is one thing I pray you never forget. Please don't forget to talk to Me – OFTEN! I LOVE YOU! I want to hear your voice. I want you to include Me in on the things going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about your friends and family. Prayer is simply you having a conversation with Me. I want to be your dearest friend.

Page 6: Sourvenir Issue of Sai Baba's Birthday Celebrations

Have Faith: I see a lot of things from up here that you can't see from where you are. Have faith in Me that I know what I am doing. Trust Me; you wouldn't want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care for you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust Me. Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have so much trouble just doing simple part. How hard can trust be?

Share: You were taught to share when you were only two years old. When did you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who are less fortunate than you. Share your joys with those who need encouragement. Share your laughter with those who have not heard any in such a long time. Share your tears with those who have forgotten to cry. Share your faith with those who have none.

Be Patient: I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so many diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult, have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can you be so impatient then when it takes Me a little longer than you expect to handle something on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush.

TEN GUIDELINES FROM SWAMI

Be Kind: Be kind to others for I love them just as much as I love you. They may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same way you do, but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for My sake. I created each of you different in some way. It would be so boring if you were all identical. Please, know I love each of your differences.

Love Yourself: As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You were created by Me for one reason only – to be loved, and to love in return. I am a God of love. Love Me. Love your neighbours. But also love yourself. It makes My heart ache when I see you so angry with yourself when things go wrong. You are very precious to Me.

YOUTH SHOULD TRANSFORM THE WORLD

Embodiments of Love!

Goodness means good behaviour, good conduct, good discipline and good character. Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love and Non-Violence are verily the five principles (panca pranas) of man. Human life isa journey from “I” to “We”. This journey is subtle and the goal is very near; but man takes many births to reach the destination. Why should he take such a long time, undergoing hardships, to attain the goal, which is so near?

Artificial Life of Modern Youth

The modern youth are making every effort to know all that is happening in the world, but are not making any effort to understand the fundamental truth of human life. No benefit accrues from acquiring such information, which does not lead to you the goal of life. There are thousands of intellectuals, scholars and eminent educationists in the world today. All these can be acquired again. But all the worldly knowledge and skills will be a mere waste if one does not know oneself. The primary duty of man is to understand who he really is.

In this world, if money is lost, one need not worry about it, for one can earn it again. If a friend is lost, one can have another. If wife is lost, one may get married again, if one loses one’s piece of land, one can purchase another. But this body, once lost, is lost forever.

(Sanskrit sloka)

Man has achieved everything in life, but has lost human values, which amounts to losing his five life principles. As a result, he has become a living corpse. Faith in God is very essential for man. You may question who is God and where is God? Truth is God. Truth is one and the same for everyone, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, language, nationality and ideology. ‘Sathyam naasthi Paro Dharmaha’ (the is no greater Dharma than adhering to Truth). This fundamental truth is God. Likewise, Love is God. So, Live in Love. True love is related to the Heart, not to the body. “Heart to Heart, not body to body.” Body is like a water bubble, mind is like a mad monkey. So, do not follow the body, do not follow the mind. Follow the conscience. Only then can you experience the Truth.

Young men and women!

Your life is a long journey and your desires are the luggage. “Less luggage, more comfort makes travel a pleasure.” So, reduce your desires. Human birth is gifted to serve others, not just to eat, drink, sleep and make merry. The best way to love God is to love all and serve all. Man’s fore most duty is to serve his fellowmen and make them happy. Your life will be redeemed only when you involve yourself serving the society. The highest Sadhana is to transform lobe into service, This is true devotion. The Kerala boy who spoke earlier mentioned various diseases that affect the body. There are many instances in the history wherein even mighty kings had to leave their mortal coil in spite having access to the best medical facilities and the best doctors. Doctors by themselves cannot cure diseases. Divine grace is essential. There is no point in safeguarding your body if you do not uphold morality. For this, one should lead a life of truth and love. The love of modern youth is artificial. They may greet each other saying ‘hello’, but it is all hollow within. Their life has become artificial like drama.

Sathya Sai Baba : A divine legend

I admire Bhagwan Satya Sai Baba for his selfless work and contributions to the welfare of the people by providing drinking water for the rural population, free healthcare facilities for the rural poor and free higher education.

The major factors in human resource development are value based education and quality healthcare. In addition, the infrastructural requirement like availability of potable water is an essential need of the human resource. While the government is actively engaged in providing these resources to the citizens, Baba has been sensitive to these essential needs of the Indian population, particularly of the people living in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, for over four decades.

Keeping this in mind, he has created vast infrastructure for providing value-based quality education to children from primary to university level, established super specialty hospitals in rural areas - as early as 1991 when there were no corporate hospitals in such interior regions - and worked on a project to provide potable safe drinking water for people of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. I would like to discuss the unique characteristics of these institutions.

Value-Based Education

The best part of a young person is his or her childhood in school and the best time spent is 8am to 4 pm each day in the school. This is applicable for all children in the age group of five to 20 living in both urban and rural areas. Baba has realized the problems of the rural poor and has made it a point that education is absolutely free in all the schools and colleges established by the Sathya Sai Trust.

Interestingly, the Sathya Sai Educational Institutions cater equally to the development of the mind, heart and the body. This is achieved through integrated education, which lays equal emphasis on keeping the body healthy, the mind active and sharp and the heart pure. Baba, being the Chancellor of the institute, spends substantial amount of time with the students to groom them into ideal citizens.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, "Students are the foundation of the nation, the only wealth that I cherish. Students are my all; my entire property consists of students. I have offered myself to them." He also says, "The end of education is character and the end of knowledge is love." This is the reason why Sri Sathya Sai Institute of higher learning emphasises character

AN INSPIRING ARTICLE ON SWAMI

Page 9: Sourvenir Issue of Sai Baba's Birthday Celebrations

building as an important component of education apart from acquiring academic excellence.

Nobility in character comes out of humility, generosity, compassion, helpfulness and respect for moral values. The single thread that runs through all the activities of the institute, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular is that education is for life and not for mere living. Experience has shown that leading organizations and companies in the country absorb Sai students. It is claimed that the students so recruited bring about a quiet change in work ethics and inject team spirit as well as a value-based approach to all aspects of organizational activity.

Water Mission

In 1994, Baba made a moving reference to the difficulties experienced by the people of Rayalaseema region in getting safe drinking water and suggested that the century-old problem needed urgent attention. In 1995, he added a new dimension to his societal mission by the trust, undertaking work to provide good and safe drinking water to as many people of Anantapur district as possible in the shortest possible time, irrespective of the difficulties experienced and the cost.

Tapping ground water was considered as an option, but was ruled out because of the fluoride problem. It was decided to use rainwater by drawing water during the monsoon and storing in special reservoirs.

Most of the water sources were in the northern part of Anantapur district and the terrain to the south sloped upwards. Hence, bringing water to the southern region needed creation of large number of pumping stations to pump water against gravity. This called for extensive civil and engineering work. In spite of all the difficulties, the water was made available to Anantapur district in 18 months. After a year of regular operation, the entire water works was handed over to the people of the state as a gift. The scheme covers 750 villages and provides water to over one million people.

India needs a thousand such organizations to provide cost effective potable drinking water to the billion people spread in different parts of the country.

Healthcare

During the 1980s, a substantial number of super specialty corporate hospitals came into being in our urban areas. However, due to commercialization, they could cater only to the needs of urban rich people. There was wide gap in the availability of medicare for the rich and poor and between rural and urban population. Keeping this in mind, Baba declared on November 23, 1990, there would be a world-class hospital in Puttaparthi area within a year and it would offer free treatment to everyone who come there, especially the poor.

This hospital was inaugurated on November 22, 1991. After its inauguration, the super specialty hospital has conducted many major heart surgeries and catheterisation procedures. Specialist surgeons from reputed hospitals, both from India and abroad, voluntarily take leave from their regular work and come to Puttaparthi and perform operations free of cost. Same is the case with nursing services.

Page 10: Sourvenir Issue of Sai Baba's Birthday Celebrations

I understand the convalescing patients provide voluntary help to the new patients who come to the hospitals for operation. Also the hospital premises are maintained in a clean, calm, serene and divine atmosphere. We can see the power of service consciousness flowing in the entire hospital environment.

Project Management

Whether it be a super specialty hospital at Puttaparthi or provision of safe drinking water for Anantapur or provision of drinking water to Chennai by solving the problems associated with Kandaleru reservoir, all projects have been completed to meet the specified objective within the prescribed time and cost. How this has been possible? I was thinking about it. The major reason appears to be that the projects have been entrusted to socially committed project managers, contractors and sub-contractors. They have executed the project with a spirit of co-operation, the spirit of sacrifice and dedication. The programme chiefs have followed the five core human values - truth, right conduct, non-violence, love and peace -while executing the projects. Can there be a better role model than this for promoting a nationwide selfless, societal transformation mission?

Swami’s message on GOOD and BADOne student asked “ Swami, if everything happens only by God’s will, then why does ‘good’ and ‘bad’ exist ?”

Swami answered. Quote “ TRUE, if you have total belief that everything is GOD’s will, then there is no ‘good’ and ‘bad’. However, if you take credit for some things and blame GOD for some things, then you are differentiating good and bad. To experience that everything is GOD’s will. You must have 100% belief in it at all times, and under all conditions.” Unquote.

PRACTICE NAMASMARANA – CHANTING OF THE LORD’S NAME

“Namasmarana is the remembrance or chanting of the name of the Lord. Once the sweetness of that name has been experienced, the person will not have exhaustion, unrest or sloth. He will fulfill his pilgrimage of Sadhana, joyfully, enthusiastically and with deep conviction.”

Suggested chantings for Namasmarana:

1.Om Sri Sai Ram2.Gayathri Mantra3.Om Sri Sai Ganeshaya Namaha 4.Om Namah Shivaya5.So Ham6.Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father 7.Allah-ho-Akbar8.Om Mani Padme Hum 9.Shema Yisrael

“Whatever Sadhana a person may or may not perform, he must practice uninterrupted Namasmarana. Then only can he master the natural attributes of greed, anger, etc. Since the Lord is the universal Goal and this Journey of Life has Him as the destination, keep Him constantly in view and subdue the mind which makes you wander from the path. All the good qualities automatically gather around the person who practices control of speech and the constant contemplation of the Lord.” - Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Prema Vahini

(Excerpt from Conversations with Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba by Dr. John S. Hislop)

Q - Hislop: Swami, please tell us more about chanting the name of God?

A - Swami: Here is a small example. A man had to pass through 20 miles of forest at night, and he had only a small lantern that lighted about a three-foot circle. He put down the lantern and started to cry, for he could see for only three feet. Some travellers came along and asked the reason for his sorrow. They exclaimed, “But sir, if you walk, carrying the lamp with you, if you can see only two feet ahead of you it is enough, and you could travel in that way through a hundred miles of dark forest without trouble. But if you leave the lantern where it is, you cannot move at all in this dark forest.”

“In the same way, the name of the Lord may be written in the book you are looking at, but you may find your way only by using the Name. The Name should be woven into the breath so that you are calling on Him all day long. Soham- 'He and I'. 'He' with the in-breath, 'I' with the out-breath. Or Sai Ram. Or the name of your choice, said with the movement of the breath. Breath is form, thus the name and the form go together. Breath is life. Life is God. Breath is God. The name of God and the form of God. Breathe God. See God. Eat God. Love God. The name of God will illumine every step of your life and take you to Him. The name must be said with love. God is love. If breath is said with love, then life is love. There is no Shakti stronger than love. If it is said with love, the name of God, any name of God - Ram, Sai Ram, Krishna, Jesus, Sohum - that small name will open up and illuminate the whole of life. For the one who desires to realize God, only the Name is needed.”

READ SWAMI’S DISCOURSES/BOOKS DAILY, AND CONDUCT WEEKLY STUDY CIRCLES

It is rare to have the three boons: 1) Human birth 2) Desire for liberation or Self - Realization 3)Proximity to a Maha Purusha (Guru or Saint) who can guide his disciples to God- Realization. We are not only gifted with this rare opportunity but also gifted to have God Himself guide us all to reach the goal of Self-Realization. At a meeting of overseas Central Coordinators during Swami’s 80th Birthday celebrations it was concluded youth should dive deeper into Swami’s teachings. In order to understand the mission and teachings of Swami, we should constantly read Sai Literature and hold regular study circles.

Therefore, the second spiritual discipline in this Sadhana is to conduct weekly or bi-weekly study circles. We should meet in a disciplined manner, read and put into practice Swami’s discourses especially the discourses given by Swami at the Sri Sathya Sai World Youth Conferences in 1997, 1999 and discourses for Karnataka youth (May 27, 2006) and Kerala youth (May 21, 2006). They are urged to spend a few moments meditating together and discussing how to aid one’s own spiritual transformation.

WHAT IS A STUDY CIRCLE?

“What is a study circle? It is not just reading books. Study circle means taking a point and each person discussing what is the meaning of the point to them, like a round-table conference. Each person gives their point of view, and finally values are derived from this. If there is just reading, there is doubt. But if each one gives his view, doubts will be answered. The topic is viewed; the study circle looks at different facets. It is like a diamond with its different facets, but there is one facet that is flat, the top facet, and from this all  can be viewed. To discover the top facet is the task of the study circle.”

- Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Conversations with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba by Dr. John Hislop, pages 125-126, Conversations recorded in 1968

“In the study circle you can learn a lot of things, but the most important thing to be learnt is your own true nature—your Atma-tatwa. Learning all about external things without knowing your real self is like studying the branches of a tree, ignoring its roots. There are many fruits on the tree. We can see the fruits. What happens if you water those fruits? They will fall down. But if you water the roots down below, the tree flourishes and will give fruits which can be enjoyed. You have to develop self-knowledge and self-confidence and then only you can help others.”

-Sri Sathya Sai Baba, 1985

SPIRITual Discipline 2

Page 13: Sourvenir Issue of Sai Baba's Birthday Celebrations

ENGAGE IN SELFLESS SERVICE ACTIVITY AS A GROUP

Sai Devotees should undertake one selfless service activity or project in their region and serve the community continuously. Do every act of service as an offering to God. Service to Man is indeed service to GOD.

“The individual and the society are one. Whatever one does for society is also good for him. When service is done in that spirit, the individual as well as the society derive benefits from it. It may not be easy to cultivate such a sense of identity. But through persistent effort one can get over the sense of ‘mine’ and ‘thine’ and identify oneself with society at large. All service should be regarded as an offering to God and every opportunity to serve should be welcomed as a gift from God. When service is done in this spirit, it will lead in due course to self- realization. It is this kind of selfless, spiritually oriented service that is needed today. To a world riddled with conflict and chaos, this will provide a

climate of serene peace. Regard yourselves as brothers in a family. Shed completely all selfishness and self-interest and enter upon service activities as the highest purpose of life. Service must become your life-breath. You must become ideal Sevaks (selfless servants) and set an example to the world.”

-Sri Sathya Sai Baba, 1987

“Everyone live up to the motto- ‘Help ever, Hurt never.’ Every educated person should engage himself or herself in selfless service to society, with humility and a pure heart.”

- Sri Sathya Sai Baba, 1994

“The age span, 16-30 years, is crucial, for that is the period when life adds sweetness to itself, when talents, skills, and attitudes are accumulated, sublimated and sanctified. If the tonic of unselfish Seva (selfless service) is administered to the mind during this period, life's mission is fulfilled—for the process of sublimation and sanctification will be hastened by this tonic.”

-Sri Sathya Sai Baba, 1984

“Without offering selfless service, how can you expect to receive God’s love? To receive God’s love, you must be totally free from worldly desires and constantly engage in selfless service. The service must be of a pleasing nature. All actions must be performed exclusively for God’s pleasure. For this, you do not have to give up anything. Just keep on doing your normal duty in the manner ordained by Destiny. You wish to study; by all means do so. But in what manner should you study? You should do it for God’s pleasure. You are employed in some place. How should you do your work? Do it to please God. Tell yourself, ‘I am doing this job as an offering to Him.’ Install this feeling in your heart and do whatever you want to or have to. However, before rushing to adopt this course, pause, reflect, and make sure that God would really be pleased with what you are trying to do and offer to Him! You cannot do all sorts of silly and stupid things, claiming that you are doing it for God’s pleasure. Every action of yours must have the stamp of quality that is acceptable to God.”

-Sri Sathya Sai Baba, 2000

THE TONGUE CAN BE YOUR WORST ENEMY!

Your words, your dreams and your thoughts have the power to create circumstances in your life. What you speak about, you bring about.

If you keep saying you can’t stand your job, you might lose your job.If you keep saying you can’t stand your body, your body can become sick.If you keep saying you can’t stand your car, your car could be stolen or just stop operating. If you keep saying you’re broke, guess what? You’ll always be broke. If you keep saying you can’t trust a man or woman, you will always find someone in your life to hurt and betray you.If you keep saying you can’t find a job, you will remain unemployed. If you keep saying you can’t find some to love you or believe in you, your very thought will attract more experiences to confirm your beliefs. If you keep talking about a divorce or break up In a relationship, then you might end up with it.

Turn your thoughts and conversations around to be more positive and power packed with faith, hope, love and action. Don’t be afraid to believe that you can have what you want and deserve.

As Baba always tells us :

Watch your Thoughts, they become words.Watch your Words, they become actions.Watch your Actions, they become habits.Watch your Habits, they become character.Watch your Character, for it becomes your destiny.

The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settle for.

In the search for Me, I discovered Truth. In the search for Truth, I discovered Love,In the search for Love, I discovered Baba. And in Baba, I have found EVERYTHING.

Remain Blessed !!!!

I saw this in a forum and I wanted to share it with everyone…MadhviSai.

STORIES ON SWAMI (as told by some students)

Let me share a real story.

There was a naughty girl and she never obeys her

mother. Out of frustration, the mother cried out

before Swami’s picture to transform her daughter.

Next morning she noticed a sudden change in her

daughter and enquired.

The daughter said the previous night, Swami came to

her room. He took her to the kitchen, prepared some

food and fed her.

Swami then advised her to be a good girl and not to

trouble her mother.

Swami then patted her and disappeared.

Swami’s message on LOVE

A Student asked “ Swami, how can I love you selflessly?”

Swami answered. Quote “ You don’t have to do anything. Every moment is love, every breadth is love, and every act is love. There is nothing but love, love and love. All you need to do is stop trying. Just be and experience Love.” Unquote.
