Transcript of Sound Waves ( Loudness and Intensity)
Characteristics Of
Sound Waves
They differ from one another in three ways, namely :
(a) Loudness or Intensity(b) Pitch
(c) quality
LOUDNESS
and
ITENSITY
Amplitude
• Amplitude is the maximum
displacement from a wave’s
equilibrium position.
Sound Intensity
increases as the amplitude
and area of the vibrating body
increase.
Loudness also depends on the
listener.
Energy is always
carried by sound waves.
Loud sounds have greater
amplitude than soft sounds.
Sound waves travel in all direction.
Megaphone
Stethoscope
Bel is the unit of sound
