Introduction
In this PowerPoint I am going to Compare and
Contrast Sound within Musical Theatre and
Contemporary Dance and show you some of the
different styles and explain the way music is
used in the pieces.
Role of a Sound
Designer They are a big part of a production and they need to
work closely with the choreographer and or director.
They need to be able to know all the different products
that they will need and how to set them up properly.
They need to be able to manipulate sound to
compliment the performance and they also need to
source the sound.

Compare And Contrast
Similarities:
• They both follow
structures, weather its
narrative or time frames ect..
• They can both have repeated
motifs.
Differences:
• Musicals are predictable
where as contemporary
dance is what you make of it.
• Musicals get the audience to
empathize with the
characters.
• Contemporary dance can use
digetic and non digetic music
where as in musicals they
mostly use digetic.
