Sound and Mise-en-sceneMise-en-scene Mise-en-scene is the arrangement of scenery and stage properties in films and TV. It refers to everything that appears before thecamera and its arrangement: props lighting costume makeup facial expressions composition

Setting and locations play an important part in the film making and are not just 'backgrounds'. A prop is an object in the scene and affects the look of the location and can change a persons perspective on the character that it belongs to.

Costume, hair and makeup act as an instant indicator to us of a characters personality, job and status and can even indicate the time era the film is set in.

Facial expressions and body language provide a clear indicator of how someone is feeling. Face expressions can sometimes mean something different for example a smile could be happy or evil.

Positioning of characters and objects within a frame can draw attention to an important subject. Bodypositioningcan show relationships between people. E.g the main focus is on the gun and his facial expressions.

Lighting and colour can be used to achieve a variety of effects and highlight important characters with in the frame. Shadows can make characters look mysterious or menacing. Colours can indicate if a scene should be happy or sad for example bright colours create a happy environment where as black and dark colours make the feeling more depressing.
