Dear Friend of Soul Home,

I trust all of you who attended our Global Oneness Day (G.O.D.) Celebration on the last Sunday in October found it enjoyable and insightful and maybe, even challenging at times. Rev. Stephanie created and facilitated a wonderful interactive “game” where we shared with each other various “I am One with…” statements, e.g. “I am One with all substance and supply,” “I am One with my divine purpose,” “I am One with Truth,” “I am One with the

2

Relative I love the least,” “I am One with all mosquitos,” “I am One with my neighbors,” “I am One with the Mafia,” “I am One with all books” etc. Some of those statements appeared to be challenging, but being One with All that is, means really One with All and cannot exclude anything. For me it was easy to say and really mean it, “I am One with all the books.” Wondering why? I am so grateful for Rev. Steph’s her splendid facilitation of the G.O.D. celebration.

Rev. Steph will lead a Spiritual Tour “From Slavery to Freedom – A 3-day Inner and Outer Journey in Cape Town” from Friday 29 to Sunday 31 January 2016. The tour sounds very interesting and fascinating to me and knowing her, I am sure that, as she puts it, “…everything that happens on the tour is an invitation for transformation, joy and greater connectedness.” Please check the attached flyer for more information regarding this tour.

Some of you may know already, but most of you probably won’t know: Centers for Spiritual Living (CSL) has done some “Match-Making”. The idea is to connect various International Science of Mind groups/centers with a center in USA or Canada. I do like this idea. We as Soul Home, have been connected with a Virtual Spiritual Community called YANA (You Are Not Alone). The leader of this community is Rev. Cliff Rubin. There is an online meeting via zoom every Wednesday where he gives a short talk (about 10 to 15 minutes), followed by discussion and some music and prayer. I do enjoy these virtual meetings and I would like to encourage you to login to one of those events and find out for yourself. The time for these talks on Wednesdays is 12am Pacific Time, which is 10pm South Africa time. Recently I started together with a Practitioner from USA, Jackie Anderson, to run an online study group where we teach an introduction to Science of Mind principles based on Ernest Holmes’ book “Basic Ideas of Science of Mind” - Wednesdays at 8am Pacific Time which is 6pm South Africa Time. The duration of these meetings is 60 minutes. There is no specific charge for these group meetings, but donations to YANA are encouraged and appreciated. The website address is: www.yanavcsl.org . Please contact me for more details if you are interested.

I trust that you will find the articles, poems and quotes in this newsletter of interest. Do feel free to make suggestions regarding topics of relevance for publishing in future editions.

A quote/affirmation by Ernest Holmes for contemplation and consideration: “The deep thinkers of antiquity, as well as the philosophers of all ages, have meditated long and earnestly upon the nature of the Divine Being." - “The Science of Mind,” page 68

THE PATHWAY HOME The Science of Mind Magazine - Daily Guides: 31 October 2015 (1938)

Individuality means self-choice, volition, conscious mind, personified Spirit, complete freedom and a Power to back up that freedom. There could not be a mechanical or an unspontaneous individuality. Individuality must be created in the image of perfection and let alone to make this stupendous discovery for itself; it emerges from the universal. Psychology teaches the personification of this individuality, which is true as far as it goes, but metaphysics universalizes it by unifying it with the Whole. There is a universal nature … inherent within us, which causes the manifestation of personality: the Spirit of God.

We have now discovered a unity with the Whole on the three sides of life, or from all three modes of expression. We are one with the body of

4

the physical world; one with the creative law of the universe in the mental world; and one with the Spirit of God in the conscious world.

Could we ask or hope for more? Would it be possible for more to be given? We could not ask for more and no greater freedom could be given. From now on we shall expand, grow and express only to the degree that we consciously co-operate with the Whole.

All of the great mystics have taught practically the same thing. They have all agreed that the soul is on the pathway of experience, that is, of self-discovery; that it is on its way back to its Father’s House; and that every soul will ultimately reach its heavenly home.

AFFIRMATION: The same Intelligence that guides the Earth around the sun is now acting as the law of good in my personal experience.

Desmond Tutu: Economy of GraceFriday, October 30, 2015

Forgiveness is an absolute necessity for continued human existence. --Desmond Tutu [1]

Desmond Tutu (b. 1931) is the first black Archbishop of Cape Town,

5

South Africa, and has used his position to defend human rights, fighting poverty, homophobia, racism, and sexism. Tutu's work is grounded in his belief that all humans are beloved of God and deserving of respect and forgiveness.

The economy of grace was exemplified in Desmond Tutu's "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" in South Africa after the fall of apartheid, where all had to take proper and public responsibility for their mistakes, not for the sake of any punishment but for the sake of truth and healing. In fact, the healing was the baring--and the bearing--of the truth publicly. This is revolutionary and unheard of in human history but is actually quite biblical, starting with the prophet Ezekiel during and after the Exile, and dramatically lived out by Jesus. Ezekiel laid the biblical groundwork for truth-speaking, accountability, and restorative justice. For him, the cement that holds the whole thing together is Yahweh being true to Yahweh's Self, and not merely reacting to human failure. [2]

Tutu spoke eloquently and emphatically about God's love, the very basic quality of God's character. Tutu couldn't conceive of a God who wasn't love. He has said, "I would not worship a God who is homophobic." From Tutu's sermon at All Saints Church in Pasadena:

[God's] family has no outsiders. Everyone is an insider. When Jesus said, "I, if I am lifted up, will draw. . . ." Did he say, "I will draw some, and tough luck for the others"? He said, "I, if I be lifted up, will draw all." All! All! All! - Black, white, yellow; rich, poor; clever, not so clever; beautiful, not so beautiful. All! All! It is radical. All! Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, Bush - all! All! . . . Gay, lesbian, so-called "straight;" all! All! All are to be held in the incredible embrace of the love that won't let us go. [3]

In 2010, I was invited to meet with Tutu in Cape Town. He told me that he--and I--were mere "lightbulbs." We get all the credit and seem to be shining brightly for all to see, but we both know that if this lightbulb were

6

to be unscrewed from its source for even a moment, the brightness would immediately stop. He laughed hilariously afterwards, and gave me a wink of understanding. [4]

Not only are we connected to our Divine Source, but we are interdependent--or "quantumly entangled," as we'll explore in a couple weeks--with others. Tutu explains the beautiful Nguni Bantu (from Southern Africa) word ubuntu, which roughly translates "human kindness" or, as Tutu says, "the essence of being human":

Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality--Ubuntu--you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity. [5]We don't need to be stingy once we live inside the Gospel. We now enjoy a world of Abundance and Infinite Source. That pretty much changes everything.

Hi Handsome, My Name is Rose

Education is NOT the learning of facts but the training of the mind to THINK.  -- Albert Einstein

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

8

She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'  I laughed and enthusiastically responded; 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze. 'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.  She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...' 'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. 'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.  After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experiences with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.' As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn

9

eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.’ She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.' She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end, Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those months ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.  These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE. REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give.

PENNY’S WORTH

One of my favorite pastimes is ‘playing with words’ similar to my observations of Generation Y (offspring of Baby Boomers Generation) who seem (to me anyway) obsessed with ‘playing’ with the latest computer technology and apps. As a practitioner of Truth, I am well aware that words are powerful and how the feelings behind words can impact dramatically on the direction of an individual’s life or demonstration/s in Science of Mind terminology. My pet irritation currently is the list of ‘d’ words – drought, dry, doom, deceit, denial, dreaded diseases - used ad nauseam in the media, by individuals and ‘experts’ on every topic from weather, to global warming, environmental affairs and the so-called international economic meltdown.

In metaphysical terms we are all one with the Divine Power within us. This is every individual’s birthright. There is no duality, discord, delusion or darkness other than our own thoughts, choices, behaviors and actions. These thoughts become things – conditions, effects, results or outcomes - and this is a sobering reminder that what we believe, we become.

14

As a youngster (not very long ago) growing up in Bloemfontein, I remember the summers with their intense, dry heat, dust storms, drought and severe water restrictions. Instead of toy-toying, the community rallied as one force. Shops and offices operated on a ‘skeleton’ staff basis for approximately an hour over the lunch period. Prayer services were held and we gravitated to the nearest church – religious denominational differences were forgotten and with one voice we prayed for – you guessed it – rain. And the rains came with majestic flashes of lightning and roaring thunder heralding the breaking of the drought. It was such joy to sing and dance in the rain with gay abandon.

What a lesson these physical droughts are for me from my memories of childhood. They are a metaphor for our individual thirst and drought – our internal dark nights of deception and discord. It is our spiritual desire (conscious or unconscious) for connection with our divine essence which is never lost nor interrupted (unlike service delivery cuts). The spirit of the mother / father welcomes the prodigal son / daughter with open arms when we are ready and willing to accept the truth of our being sons and daughter of the Divine / God / Deity. The parable of the feeding of the 5000 also emphasizes that there is infinite abundance for the feeding and nurturing of our every need - spiritual, physical, emotional or any other needs. No matter what external circumstances may appear be, there is a dynamic force at work in the universe. Our dreams and desires manifest through the intensity of our diligent, disciplined faith and prayer treatment.

I urge you to treat for your own spiritual rain as I send you all much love and light. ************************************************************************** And – as always - I should like to express my heartfelt “Thank You” to the members of the Soul Home community for all their encouragement and support, as well as financial assistance in the form of love offerings and/or tithing. It is so good to know that each person makes a difference… and that person is…YOU. - THANK YOU!!!

And last – but not least, a special “Thank You” to my fellow Practitioners, Anka Daly, Penny Gottlieb, and Melanie Hall, for their continuous generous and loving support.

Love and abundant blessings to all of you and your loved ones! Enjoy each and every day of your precious life!
