For I was part of that doomed race
Whose death-cell was the womb
But who can clear a bloody space
And call it living room
I never had a name or cried
That central cry "I am"
But in a world-wide shambles died
Defenceless as a lamb
Remember me next time you
Rejoice at sun or star
I would have loved to see them too
I never got that far.

In my home state of NSW they are now debating and voting on a piece of legislation that sounds quite rational, ethical and compassionate - the Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019. While it appears that overdue reform will benefit childbearing women the reality is the lives of young children yet to be born could be extinguished far easier.
Back in the 1980s, one of my favourite Australian poets Bruce Dawe wrote on this contentious issue that is of global concern. His poem entitled 'The Wholly Innocent' may challenge some, but here it is …
I never walked abroad in air
I never saw the sky
Nor knew the sovereign touch of care
Nor looked into an eye.
I never chose, nor gave consent
Nor voted on my fate
Unseen, I came, unseen I went
Too early and too late
This was my life-line trust
As absolute as blood
Now down in the bucket thrust
Anonymous as mud
Oh you within whose God-like power
Lies to so decide
Remember me when, some late hour
Talks turn to genocide
I acknowledge the confronting nature of this issue especially when seen from a different perspective, as in the poem above. I also acknowledge that some will have been personally crushed by this issue. So at this point I would remind us all that God extends a very gracious and compassionate response to those whose choices in the past have caused grief. I think of King David’s moral lapse and then his act of murder to cover up the situation. Also the woman who was brought to Jesus for having done the wrong thing and how forgiving He was by not condemning her actions in the past, but pointing her to a better future.
So here’s to a better future for all, because it’s (really) worth a thought.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? - KAIDYN RULLA
From time to time we have our former students make contact and let us know how things are going in their life. For those of us in the great calling of education
it is always good to hear of the various places that our students have chosen to go and what they are doing with their life.
In 2016 Kaidyn Rulla graduated from Gilson College - Taylors Hill and he chose to further his education in the United States. Kaidyn who was quite the athlete chose Herkimer College / State University of New York which has a nationally ranked sports program. He has just graduated from his course with Magna Cum Laude and, because we do not use the Latin system of honours here in Australia, it translates and means it is awarded to those students who have graduated
“with great distinction”. We congratulate Kaidyn and join
his family in wishing him all the very best as he begins the next chapter.

FUNDRAISERS Recently we have had a number
of students selling items for their own clubs, churches etc. Please note while we encourage independance in our students, we request that fundraising items e.g chocolate, are not brought to school to be sold to other students.
If you wish for your child to have a fundraiser at school, please ensure that you contact the Heads of School for permission.
COLLEGE FEESCollege Fees are now well
overdue. Please have this settled as soon as possible.
PB4L HOME MATRIXTo further help support our
students in becoming respectful, responsible and resilient members of
society, we are proud to announce that we now have an, ‘at home expected behaviour matrix’. This was developed by a wonderful team of parents from our school. The Matrix outlines for our families the expected behaviours that we should be seeing throughout the home. To help support your child, we would love it if you could spend some time going over and teaching these behaviours at home. If you have any feedback or suggestions about our home matrix, please feel free to contact the Deputy Head of Primary, Mr Damon Lawty via SEQTA. Please see page 15 for the home matrix table.

YEAR 7 ANCIENT HISTORYAs part of their studies in History,
Year 7 Humanities students studied ancient Asian and Mediterranean civilisations. For their major assessment task, students select an Ancient Mediterranean civilisation to research, which includes Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt. Students develop three inquiry questions, which they must research and then write a report on their findings. They must also create a model which reflects an aspect of their chosen ancient civilisation.
On Wednesday, students presented their researched information and models as part of the annual Ancient Civilisations Exhibition. Featured models included pyramids, aquaducts, Colosseums, tombs, the

Dear Minister,
Overfishing is bad. It’s killing fish and other sea creatures. Overfishing is also
destroying plants in the ocean like kelp, phytoplankton, algae, sea anemones, etc.
Imagine if your home was destroyed by overfishing.
Overfishing is killing more fish than usual. People have already risked tuna fish by
bringing it close to extinction. Approximately 20% of the fish caught in the world have
been illegally fished. When overfishing has not been allowed or strict rules apply in
areas, illegal fishing typically moves to another area. For the past 50 years, overfishing
has eliminated 90% of the top predators in the oceans, e.g. sharks, tuna fish,
mackerel, etc. Just look at this chart.
Here are some quotes about how overfishing is bad:
“Overfishing is an obvious threat to our capacity to feed ourselves” - Tim Winton
“The ocean is like a checking account where everybody withdraws but nobody
makes a deposit. This is what’s happening because of overfishing” - Enric Sala
I oh-so believe that overfishing should be banned.
Kind regards
Thomas Mickovski, 4S
