SEMESTERIZATION
In the 2009/10Academic Year the University embarked on another major step in semesterization: the introduction of flexibilityin the delivery and scheduling of modules. This enables delivery of modules in undergraduate programmes in a way thatpermits flexible scheduling and improved accessibility for enrolment. It offers students some flexibility in selecting modulesand allows them to pursue studies at their desired pace. Additionally, semesterization fosters cross-faculty integrationamongst students and promotes efficient utilization of the University's resources.
Full-Time and Part-Time StatusStudents' status will be based on the number of credits taken per semester and not the time of day they attend classes. Thismeans that a student has the option to enrol as a full-time or as a part-time student based on the number of credits that he/shechooses to take. A full-time student takes 12-18 credits in a given semester; whereas a part-time student takes 6-11. Insituations where a student needs fewer than six credits to complete a course of study, it will be permissible to pursue these. Both full-time and part-time students will be able to choose their modules at any time of the day or evening.
Fees are calculated on a per-credit basis.
FEESThe fees quoted in this brochure are estimated for Jamaican Residents for the summer 2009 session and first year studentsfor academic year 2009/2010 as provided by the Finance and Business Services Department. A precise schedule of feesis normally available for summer 2010 by May 2010 and for 2010/2011 academic year by July 2010. The fees are estimatedon the maximum number of credits plus other fees.
