2.2. Full HD 1080 1/2

The ultimate standard of High Definition

• 1920 x 1080 resolution: approximately twice the number of pixels1920 x 1080 resolution: approximately twice the number of pixels compared to WXGA

• Can fully display 1920x1080 sources such as HD broadcasting, Blu-ray and Playstation 3 contentR d th fi d t il t t d d th th t t

There are two types of so-called HD televisions: WXGA and Full HD displays. WXGA

• Reproduces the fine detail, texture, and depth that was not possible with WXGA

televisions can only display half the information stored in a 1080i input signal, which includes everything from HD broadcasting to Blu-ray movies to Playstation 3 games. Thus, users cannot enjoy the richness of Full HD images on a WXGA television even if it is connected to a Full HD camera or video device.

With approximately twice the number of pixels, Full HD television can display 1080i and 1080p sources in its entirety at the highest quality. Because each pixel is smaller, lines are smoother and the detail and texture of fine objects can be expressed. Experience the true power of High Definition with Full HD 1080.

• Optimizes the contrast of every scene by adjusting the backlight level

• Reproduces much deeper black levels even in dark scenes

With advances in digital signal processing technology, the brightness of original video signals can now be analyzed more accurately to adjust the backlighting to optimal levels. Displaying richer blacks and whites in the dark scene requires very sophisticated image processing. But Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) can reproduce true black without sacrificing the brightness in dark scenes ACE optimizes the contrast of every scene andsacrificing the brightness in dark scenes. New Sony-unique technology reproducing dramatically

2.5. Motionflow 100Hz with IB Reduction (PAL) 1/2

New Sony unique technology reproducing dramatically sharp and smooth motion like never before on LCD television

• Doubles the number of images displayed on the screen per second

• Sony-unique algorithm creates and inserts new images based on speeds and movement of objectsj

• Reduces the image blur created in the capturing process for a crisper image

Compared to conventional 50Hz LCD television, Motionflow 100Hz allows the television to p ,display twice as many images per second, doubling the 50Hz frame rate to 100Hz. In marked difference to other products, this Sony-unique algorithm creates completely new images based on the incoming signal, and inserts them between the original frames to reproduce smoother, sharper motion. This dramatically reduces motion blur and ‘judder’, a phenomenon p y j pin which objects jump from one position to the next instead of flowing smoothly. The result is a revolution in motion reproduction of LCD television. In addition to the precise creation of new images, Sony’s unique “IB Reduction” algorithm reduces the blur that is generated when the original image is captured with a camera Unlikereduces the blur that is generated when the original image is captured with a camera. Unlike other high frame rate technologies, Motionflow +100Hz creates new frames based on blur-reduced images, further improving the clarity of moving images.

2.7. S-Force Front Surround 1/2

Wider listening area and delivers amazing virtual surround sound with built-in television speakers

S-Force Front Surround delivers realistic virtual surround using front speakers only. In addition, the S-Force Front Surround realizes a wide listening area by the digital signal processor algorithm. To accomplish this feat, Sony spent several years studying the way our ears work By understanding exactly how we recognise the origin and direction ofour ears work. By understanding exactly how we recognise the origin and direction of sound, (ex. differentiating volume and timing differences in sounds registered by the right and left ear), BRAVIA is able to mimic this very human mechanism through complex audio processing.

In a marked difference to seemingly similar offerings from other manufacturers, BRAVIA does not use rebound technology, which involves bouncing sound off walls and back at the listener. With the S-Force Front Surround technology the effect is entirely virtual, so you can enjoy dynamic surround sound in any space You can also control the volume level ofcan enjoy dynamic surround sound in any space. You can also control the volume level of voices located in the centre of the scene while keeping ambient surround sound constant by using this feature with the Voice Zoom function.

Design for Recycling

In 2002, Sony established its own regulation intended for managing chemical substances contained in parts and materials. The regulation is applicable to Sony’s manufacturing plants all over the world. In the same year, the Green Partner Environmental Quality Approval Program was introduced with the aim of procuring environment friendly parts and components from suppliers qualified as Sony’s Green Partner Sony is committed to offering “clean” products with careful attention to all stages ofGreen Partner. Resource Saving / Recycling

Sony promotes a unique product design approach that integrates easy disassembly with sustainable use of resources in accordance with its own “Design for Environment” (DfE) standards and guidelines. As part of the DfE-based product design approach, the company proactively uses reused/recycled materials (plastic, foam) for the BRAVIA components, packaging materials, and accessories, and also reduces the quantity of materials used in a single product.

• CI+ or Common Interface Plus is a specification that extends the Common Interface(DVB-CI) as found in the digital broadcasting standard DVB. It has been developed by consumer electronic firms Panasonic, Philips, Samsung and Sony, as well as pay-TV technology company SmarDTV and fabless chip maker NEOTIONTV technology company SmarDTV and fabless chip maker NEOTION.

• A first draft of the specification has been put up for review early in 2008. The final version has been released end of May 2008. CI+ implements a form of copy protection between a Conditional Access Module (CAM) and the Integrated Digital T l i i (IDTV)Television (IDTV).

• By making use of certificates and a certification authority, a trusted channel is formed between the CAM and DTV, when scrambled content is being received. In the original CI standard, decrypted content could be sent over the PCMCIA interface unscrambled.
