Perhaps the closest game of the season for the Otters was a thrilling 92-91 double-overtime victory at home against UC San Diego. While being the nation’s best defensive team, CSUMB is sixth in the CCAA in scoring offense, averaging 64.9 points a contest. Sonoma State Picked to Finish 10th in CCAA Preseason PollIn a preseason poll of coaches around the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Sonoma State was picked to finish 10th this season. Four-time defending regular season champion UC San Diego was selected to win the CCAA. Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona rounded out the top three. The Seawolves were selected to finish above Cal State Stanis-laus and Cal State East Bay, respectively.

2009-10 Season in ReviewAfter finishing 11-16 overall and 9-13 in conference play last season, Sonoma State just barely missed an opportunity to play in the CCAA Championship Tournament. It came down to a coin flip between four teams -- Cal State San Bernardino, Sonoma State, Cal State Stanislaus, and Cal State Dominguez Hills. All tied for seventh with 9-13 records. The four-way tie was broken based on head-to-head play, securing a berth for Cal State San Bernardino and eliminating Cal State Stanislaus. In a two-way tie between Sonoma and Dominguez Hills for the eighth and final spot, all tie-breaking criteria were even, thus prompting a coin flip that was won by the Toros, leaving the Seawolves out of the eight-team tournament. Sonoma State was led by the 8.3 points of senior Stephanie Barnes.

2010-11 Sonoma State Women's Basketball

Mark Rigby returns for his 14th season as head coach of the Seawolves in 2010-11. The winningest coach in SSU women’s basketball history, Rigby has led his teams to an impressive 204-155 mark in 13 years at SSU. In con-ference play, Rigby’s Seawolves have amassed a record of 150-116.

Rigby has delivered a winning season in nine of his 13 seasons at the helm, including three 20-win seasons. In his first two years at Sonoma State, Rigby led his team to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a school-record 23 victories in 1998-99. His teams have participated in the NCAA West Regionals six times, a feat no other basketball coach has ac-complished at SSU. A true student of the game, Rigby’s squads emphasize teamwork, defense, and hustle.

In 1997-98, Rigby led SSU to their first-ever conference championship and what was at the time a school record 20 wins. In addition, the team enjoyed their first trip to the NCAA tournament. He capped off the season by being named NCAC Coach of the Year. Rigby was also honored as CCAA Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his 2001-02 team to a 21-8 record and the second round of the NCAA tourney.

One of the most successful high school coaches in the area, Rigby was the head coach at Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa for ten seasons. At Ursuline, he compiled an oustanding 253-54 record while capturing nine North Bay League championships and the 1992 CIF Division IV State Champi-onship. After his stint at Ursuline, Rigby joined the staff at Santa Rosa Junior College for two years prior to his arrival at Sonoma State.
