The Concept…The songs were

conceptualized years ago, either already in

song form or as poetry…

but this environment helped the ideas to become tangible.

The Process…In most cases the vocals were recorded first (then re-recorded later) to establish the key and experiment with accompanying sounds.

This was done in Cakewalk Music Creator.

The Process: Rewire

For a wider variety of

instruments and effects, a Rewire through Reason was necessary…

and fun!

First, insert the rewire device…

The Process: Rewire, cont’d…

Then choose your instruments/sounds in Reason…

Finally, select Reason as the output and choose the channel that corresponds with your instrument in the Music Creator MIDI track.

The Process: Rewire, cont’d…Once the two programs were linked, changes

made to events in one were automatically reflected in the other.

The Process: Final StepsThe completed audio was exported as a .wav

file, then imported into Adobe Audition for fine-tuning.

I tried to get it to sound as evenly blended and natural as possible, using a Multi-band

Compressor.

File TypesFor editing, standard .wav files were transferred from one program to another…

To transport to other listening environments (via CD or mp3 player), it was necessary to convert the file to an .mp3 file, to save space. (.Wav files can be huge!)
