The apostle Paul urged the people of Ephesus to sing the words and tunes of the psalms and hymns when they were together, and to go on singing and chanting to the Lord in their hearts, "always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Eph. 5:20 NIV). The Saint Cecilia Sing is a musical event promoted by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians which blends sacred songs, choral music, readings and prayer. The songs and hymns today are presented in a variety of musical styles. The festival is a way to honor a patron saint of music, and to encourage people of faith to worship together in song, “singing and chanting to the Lord in their hearts.” The National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) is a national organization founded over 40 years ago to foster the art of musical liturgy. The members of NPM serve the Catholic Church in the United States as musicians, clergy, liturgists, choir members, music directors and other leaders of prayer. The local Saint Louis Chapter of NPM has been meeting and providing continuing education for parish musicians for 35 years. As the Jubilee Year of Mercy draws to a close, we sing songs of God’s boundless grace and mercy to us. There will be a time within the program to request favorite songs, so be prepared to call out the titles and numbers of favorite songs which we will then sing together. We will close with songs of praise to the Giver of Music, and in honor of Saint Cecelia, whose feast day will be celebrated on November 22. We are glad that you are here today to make music and to reflect, to know God’s mercy and to sing God’s praises.

Dear Saint Cecilia, one thing we know for certain about you is that you became a he-roic martyr in fidelity to your divine Bridegroom.

We do not know that you were a musician but we are told that you heard Angels sing.

Inspire musicians to gladden the hearts of people by filling the air with God's gift of music and reminding them of the divine Musician who created all beauty. Amen.
