When ask~d what this show was about Jason Robert Brown (author composer and lyricist) said its about one moment It s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice or take a stand or turn around and gD back This striking piece ties together a seemingly unrelated group of characters each of whom changes their life through a single moment when a simple choice alters his or her world forever Every person faces a moment of choice in his or her life which makes the music and magic Songs for a New World realistic and appealing to every audience

In our journey to bring this extraordinary piece to life we endured our share of struggles But tonight we bring you a show that highlights the strength of this piece - the beautiful music and unfaltering honesty It presents diverse characters in various times and situations facing different choices but consistently demonstrates that the power of a persons destiny lies within his or her reach We hope that you see on stage tonight a shadow of what you once were or one day may become because it is in that human connectedness that this show will come to life

Frederick in Pirates of Penzance Last year he appeared in Cosmo Girl Magazine representing the Columbia Greek Community as one of the hottest guys on campus Television appearances include Guiding Light and MTV Wannabe on which he played JC of NSYNC and won Jonathan would like to thanks his friends and teachers for their continued support MARY STEFFEL a senior at Columbia is thrilled to take the stage once again with CMTS She has also performed as April in Company Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors Vicki in A Chorus Line Barnard Girl in A Sondheim Revue Stormtrooper 4 in Late Nites The Reproducers a soloist in the fall CUPAL Performing Arts Benefit and a vocalist in the Fall 2002 and Fall 2003 Columbia Composers Concerts She has studied private voice for 14 years under Jo Trakimas Lynne Owen and Ron Cappon When not perfonning Mary is diligently working on her honors thesis in psychology and crossing her fingers for the opportunity to pursue her PhD in decisionshymaking psychology next fall Mary would like to thank her parents friends and teachers for their inspiration love and support ALICE CHIN (Director) is a first- year student at Barnard College at Columbia University She is thrilled to make her directorial debut at Columbia University with the Columbia Musical Theatre Societys production of Songs for a New World Alice made her performance debut at Columbia University as an ensemble member in BCMTICMTS s production of Kiss Me Kate this past fall Alice previously directed three one-act plays Misreadings So Tell Me About This Guy and Crossin the Line for the Bergen County Academies One-Act Play Festival in Hackensack NJ She also appeared in many musicals and straight plays in high school and community theatre in Northern NJ Alice studied voice as a lyric soprano with Brenda Miller Cooper Emily Weiland Margaret Leary and Jane McMahan music direction and theory with Dr Patrick Finley acting with the New Jersey School of the Arts Shakespeare with Mrs Marylyn Christie and acting methods and theatre direction with Dr
