eTOM Solution Framework

KTW Consulting utilizes the Enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM) as a framework to guide the alignment of the enterprise and the integration of people and technology. The eTOM is a business process framework for categorizing all the business process activities that a telecom service provider would use. The eTOM framework serves as an effective guide to ensure all critical processes are addressed.

The eTOM framework has been developed by the TeleManagement Forum (TM Forum) which is a non-profit global organization that provides leadership, strategic guidance and practical solutions to improve the management and operation of information and communications services.

Utilizing the eTOM framework KTW Consulting will comprehensively model and document your business process framework. Then we will analyze your existing processes for inefficiencies, redundancies and unnecessary complexities. Finally we will redesign processes as necessary and integrate them into your organization.

The reality facing telecom firms today is an environment of accelerated change. Service offerings are multiplying within shrinking time to market windows. Your infrastructures cannot become the choke point.

What to do?

Creating a Process Centred Framework environment at your company will assist in the elimination of redundant modeling and data collection efforts. Maintenance of your eTOM model in this type of environment is supported by all stakeholders.

Using the Process Centred Framework and the MEGA tool, will provide a better viewing and communication platform for the relationships that exist between key components of your telecom business - people, processes and IT based OSS's.

Modeling in a Process Centred Framework

KTW Consulting believes a business is a collection of process objects that represent the typical business activities performed that produce value, serve customers and generate income. In order to understand business processes, organizations undertake modeling efforts to capture a visual representation of the business. These efforts are usually tied to a specific project event, e.g. ERP implementation, Six Sigma deployment, compliance requirements etc.

Typically each project team creates their own unique view of the business process by interviewing process participants and stakeholders. Minimal effort is expended to reuse previous modeling efforts (usually because the models are now out of date) and the nomenclature and model structure used is usually different from what has been previously discovered.

The net result is a tangled web of numerous views of the same business leading to an ever growing workload of unnecessary integration and rework, without having a common view of the business emerging. It is no wonder than that the key process indicators of your business do not align themselves very well with the business as modelled for the implementation of the new ERP system.

The solution lies in deploying a modeling environment that has a Process Repository at its centre. This repository is then shared and utilized by all aspects of business modeling, regardless of the management system using it.

KTW Consulting is partnered with MEGA International and utilizes MEGA's sector leading software (Gartner Group "magic quadrant") for performing business modeling.

MEGA Software allows you to: - easily model all aspects of your business - quickly update changes - effectively communicate your business processes - conduct simulations to determine resource requirements - analyze for deficiencies and redesign as appropriate.

Up to 70% of a company's business processes add no direct value to the final product and service. It follows that there is a significant opportunity for process improvement in most organizations.

DEFINE -Define the critical business issue - the "PAIN" -"AS-IS" process model prepared in MEGA software - WHO, WHAT & WHERE -Team training in MEGA software & in process modeling methodology and technique

MEASURE -Refine the "AS-IS" models and augment the framework with more detail -Develop and populate the Key Process Indicator (KPI) metrics

ANALYZE -Identify performance gaps -Perform process diagnostics, e.g. root cause analysis, benchmarking etc. -Prepare recommendations based on findings

DESIGN -Redesign processes into "TO-BE" model -Define process metrics in support of new procedures -Revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) published -Scorecard created

VALIDATE -End-user training and mentoring (Learn, Experience & Know) -Publication and communication of new Scorecard -Post-implementation validation of revised processes -Deployment of a continous improvement management system as a sustaining mechanism

DEFINE - Step I

ANALYZE - Step 3 DESIGN - Step 4

VALIDATE - Step 5MEASURE - Step 2

Research by Gartner Group shows: Organizations can achieve an average savings

of 10% through the use of Process Analysis Up to 20% savings can be achieved by utilising

simulation and "what-if" analysis when designing the "TO-BE" model
