1. PaTIEnT REgIsTRaTIOn

scanning barcodes on wristbands is a

convenient way of identifying patients

accurately. These wristbands contain all

information needed for the medical staff.

apart from the large amount of data that

can be stored in a barcode (especially 2D

barcodes), the printed wristbands are always

readable.

2. REgIsTRaTIOn REcORDs

Medical records contain a barcode to make

sure the medical record belongs to the right

patient. scanning the barcode functions as a

check to be sure people with similar names

will not be mixed-up. apart from that, the

medical records show which patients have

checked in and checked out.

3. MEDIcaTIOn

Orders for patients are entered into the

computer system. all medical staff can

immediately see the medical information

and prepare unit-dose prescriptions. These

prescriptions are packaged and supplied to

the nursing floor with a barcode. The nurse

scans both the medication and the patient’s

wristband, so that the medical record is

updated immediately.

again by using barcodes. Both the recipe and the

drug are scanned again to make sure the right

client physically receives the right medication.
