Solid Wastes

Any discarded (abandoned or considered waste-like) materials.

It can be solid, liquid, semi-solid or containerized gaseous material.

A material is discarded by either disposing it to a location, by burning or incineration or by accumulation, storing or physical, chemical or biological treatment.

Sources of Solid Pollutions

Residentialo Food wastes, paper, cardboard, plastics,

textiles, leather, yard wastes, wood, glass, metals, ashes, special wastes.

o Single and multifamily dwellings. Industrialo Housekeeping wastes, packaging, food

wastes, construction and demolition materials, hazardous wastes, ashes, special wastes.

o Light and heavy manufacturing, fabrication, construction sites, power and chemical plants.

COMPOSTABLE WASTESo Biodegradable wastes such as food

waste, garden waste, animal waste and human waste.

o Undergo biological degradation under controlled conditions and can be turned into compost.

o Fruit, vegetable, leftover foods, seeds, leaves, flowers, etc.

RECYCLABLE WASTESo Any waste material retrieved from the

waste stream and free from contamination that can still be converted into suitable beneficial use.

o These may be transformed into new products in such a manner that the original products may lose their identity.

o Newspaper, aluminum, glass, tin can, etc.

recyclable.o It should be disposed ecologically

through a long-term disposal facility or sanitary landfill.
