The value of experience

With the onset of fixed-price energy, solar has shifted from an environmental movement to a strong business case.

Energy waste sheds light on financial waste. Where are the leaks? What are they costing you?

Your business could benefit from being part of the $190 billion global reduction in the cost of electricity in 2020.World Wildlife Fund2

Solgen works with businesses and government bodies to develop custom solutions that generate value now, and into the future, with energy solutions engineered for longevity.

We ensure every implementation is ready to adapt with industry trends, reducing internal complexity with operations and maintenance.

Solgen Energy Group has been leading this economic evolution in Australia. We’ve delivered close to 15,000 commercial solar power systems for a diverse client base, including ASX 100 businesses, property groups and commercial and industrial businesses across the country.

6Chapter 1: Business Value

A partner that cares about your capital

Australia’s energy future is challenged with uncertainties across both supply and government policy, which are driving electricity prices to record highs.

Solar solutions can now deliver energy at a levelised cost lower than that of grid electricity. Even if the cost of grid-based energy were to drop, solar would still remain the most cost-effective option.

Return on Investment

Financial modelling plays a crucial role in how we would deliver the most effective solutions for your business. Since delivering Australia’s first Corporate Power Purchase Agreement in 2015, we continue to provide innovative business case offerings.

While you’ll still need an energy provider, Solgen will explore how quickly this decision pays for itself through our four financial approaches:

Four ways to invest in renewable energy

Outright Ownership: With short-paybacks and long-term returns, outright ownership creates a value proposition with returns that we guarantee.

Or three zero upfront options:

2) Power Purchase Agreement: Commonly called a PPA, this is a simple off-balance sheet arrangement where you pay an agreed rate for the power that the system installed at your site produces.

3) Corporate PPA: A Power Purchase Agreement structure where the system is installed off-site and energy is procured from that system via the wholesale energy market.

4) Leasing: A fixed instalment arrangement. generally over terms of up to 10 years.

1)

Our purchasing options are built around optimising value to our customer. We build-in optionality that allows continued value-add opportunities such as storage and new technologies. And, we're flexible - a PPA system can be bought out at any time, equally an owned system can subsequently be repurchased under PPA.

We aim to create certainty and reliability, while granting you the freedom to make better business decisions about your company’s future.

A partner that opens up new value streams

Looking ahead, integrating renewable technologies like battery storage will build greater resilience and flexibility into Australia’s electricity grid.

By 2030, 40% of all energy generation in Australia will be decentralised.Australian Energy Market Operator

For businesses and government bodies, this means significant whole-of-market benefits including firming up renewable production, stabilising the electrical grid, integrating battery storage, optimising asset management and generating revenue. By seizing long term control over your own energy generation through upcoming technologies, your business is able to leverage ongoing opportunities.

The cost of lithium-ion batteries has fallen by 80% since 2010. Costs may halve again by 2025.3

As the costs of these technologies continue to fall, we arrive at a rare opportunity in the market where environmental and business goals meet at an intersection.

Chapter 1: Business Value

Moving into a solar setup leads to fast financial rewards, with early adopters setting measurable examples of this long term potential.

The ROI for lean and green interventions is up to 233%.The 3% Solution

For chemical company DuPont, these savings are reflected clearly in the data. They committed to a 65% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from 2000, and by 2007 they were saving $2.2bn per year through energy efficiency. This figure is equivalent to the company’s total profits that year.4

Solgen’s sights are set on pioneering this new wave of decentralised energy, creating certainty around new value streams for your business.

All businesses are really looking to have financial certainty, and Solgen gave us that. We’re not only lowering our carbon footprint but we’re saving on overheads as well.

A partner who can demonstrate your environmental difference

With today’s focus on sustainability, working towards Clean Energy goals has a long lasting, positive impact on your business profile.

66%of consumers would spend more on a product if it came from a sustainable brand.Nielson5

Every kW of solar power installed can reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by more than 1,400 kilograms per annum, providing a measurable commitment to the reduction of carbon in the atmosphere.6

Solgen’s diagnostics platform helps you monitor your system performance, both for internal purposes, or to promote the difference your business is making to current and potential customers.

Chapter 2: Environment Value5 Nielson: The Sustainability Imperative 6 How To Neutralise Your Greenhouse Gas Footprint

This is a busy manufacturing facility so we really needed to minimise the impact and get our installation done as quickly as possible and Solgen had the scale and the resources to make that happen.

From a technical perspective, they have a good solution. Our site is quite challenging because it’s an old site, so in terms of how they worked around the existing infrastructure is a really smart and intelligent way to design the system.

A partner that delivers cost-optimisations and revenue opportunities

When it comes to using traditional grid energy, you might be surprised at what you're paying for. While approximately 50% pays for the energy itself, the rest of your bill is related to your consumption profile and covering costs associated with getting that energy to you. When your demand for energy goes up, so too does the network charge, which then becomes your new baseline. Unfortunately these charges don't ebb and flow with your usage so they generally don’t fall when demand lowers.

That’s when our solar solutions can deliver even more value to your business, beyond alleviating approximately 30% of your traditional grid energy costs.

You will be able to optimise your solar energy and make it work harder for your business.

For example, storage options can supply you with additional energy when demand for traditional grid energy soars, helping you avoid those higher costs. You can also create more value through solar by operating as a Virtual Power Plant with the potential to open value streams from trading into the energy market.

Through Solgen’s monitoring platform, we can access online diagnostics in real-time, which means we can keep track of your energy production and consumption. It can provide Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) with the analytics to interact with the grid in real time, and respond to price signals and operational incentives, ultimately giving you the best possible return on investment.7

A partner in solar innovation

Looking into the future, renewable technologies like battery storage will need to be integrated across the grid to help you access the whole-of-market benefits and evolve a smarter, more sustainable solution.8

It makes sense to choose a partner who doesn’t only deliver energy solutions that complement existing systems today, but is also capable of accommodating those of tomorrow.

A cleaner, greener tomorrow starts today.

By staying informed about changes within the energy landscape, both locally and internationally, Solgen is able to innovate on demand and achieve maximum economic benefits in the long-term.

We have the capability and expertise to deliver on emerging technologies, such as storage and digital enablers, as they become more cost-effective and relevant to your business. Monitoring your power generation and consumption future-proofs your energy needs, preparing your system now for when battery storage, or the next energy innovation, is the most effective solution to deploy for your business.

With a digital platform, your solar and storage then becomes a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) that opens up new value streams from the grid to you.
