Fresh water needs are rapidly increasing with demographic expansion and economic development, in regions with limited clean safe water capacity, sometimes even depleting from climate change or overexploitation.

WATER, SOURCE OF LIFE Water covers 70% of the earth's surface

are creating an urgency to produce large quantities of drinking water from all available water sources, including sea water, at affordable cost and in accordance with the preservation of the environment.

Scarce and reducing water resources around the planet

97% of this water is salty, brackish or spoiled,

not drinkable

3% of all of the water is fresh drinking water

THE SUN, SOURCE OF ENERGY

Renewable energy, abundant

and free of charge in regions where water is scarce

Water Desalination/Purification StationLet the sun bring you pure drinking water

Production of larges quantities of high purity WHO grade drinking water, up to 500 m3 (132'000 gallons)

per day, from spoilt, brackish or sea water at very low cost. Housed in a standard shipping container, the

station is powered by solar energy with energy recovery system, a totally green solution free of any specific infrastructure.

Water Desalination/Purification Station

The source raw water is pumped up to 3 kms away from the station.

It is first filtered through a set of sand and cartridges filters to remove all solid particles and suspended debris down to micron size.

The next step in purification, through ultrafiltration or

reverse osmosis, depending upon the source water,

fully removes salt, viruses, bacteria, pesticides and

insecticides, heavy metal ions and most dissolved organic compounds, using latest low power technology membranes and design.

Pressurized water is forced through membranes in two separate streams, the filtrate and the

concentrate . The filtrate is collected and yields the pure water flow.

The concentrate, the portion of raw water that is not filtered and contains all the concentrated

salts and residues is rejected as effluent where it was pumped. There are therefore no solids to be disposed of or to be recycled. The process doesn’t consume any chemicals during the purification steps.

Sealed lead batteries, recyclable, charged by solar energy for night use

Solar Power GenerationThe all process is operating 24 hours on seven days, self powered through an array of photovoltaic panels mounted on a steel structure bolted to the roof of the containers. Solar energy is stored in battery racks housed in a second container.

Operation and MaintenanceThe operation of the station is fully automated, requiring only minimal unskilled manpower to operate and maintain.Servicing is limited to the replacement of membranes every 18 months and the periodic cleaning in place of the purification circuits.Running costs are limited to a few gallons a year of cleanser solution for the automatic cleaning in place and the diesel fuel needed for a small backup generator. The payback period for a 500 m3 station (including maintenance, servicing and running costs) is inferior to the life expectancy of

the station, which brings the cost of high grade drinking water to less than 1 cent $ per gallon.

Avantages• Independent from grid power Can be installed in remote locations and

away from the water source. • No power breakdowns caused by unstable power supply• No permanent infrastructure needed • Locally run with very low overheads• Running costs limited to maintenance• Totally green solution C• Cost of drinking water produced less than 0.5 $ per cubic meter• ROI ≤ 10 years.• Payback of extra cost of solar-powered over grid-powered or diesel-

powered unit by free energy supply and lower maintenance costs

• Primary Settlement Process - Lamella Plate SettlerSettlement zone to precipitate flocculated material suspended in raw water to suppress the gross solids without recourse to mechanical means. It reduces the Suspended Solids by 75% and the BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) by 25% to 30%.

• Aerobic Treatment Treatment by a compact and efficient Bioaerator system,

combination of two types of treatment, "Active Aeration" (similar to activated sludge) and "Passive Contact" (similar to filter media/RBC systems) treatment.

• Final Settlement Process - Lamella Plate SettlerThe final settlement or humus tank is housed in a discrete compartment. A timed submersible pump allows frequent automatic removal of sludge to sludge storage.

• Sludge Storage The resulting sludge is stored in the base of the station, with an approx 12 weeks capacity. Desludging is carried out by suction-tanker.

• Free Supply of Electric PowerThe SEWSOL station has a very low power usage of less then 5 kWh/day, fully provided by solar energy, using a small array of photovoltaic panels to give full electrical

autonomy to the process.
