The Armed Forces o the Philippines joins the whole Christendom in commemorating

the birth o our savior, Jesus Christ. We, soldiers and civilian employees, unite insending to the Filipino people our message o peace, humility, and love.Te Christmas season is that time o the year when we relive a great story that continuously shaped

our aith or more than two thousand years now. It is about the journey o a amily to Bethlehemand the humble birth o a savior, which paved the way or the Almighty Gods ultimate expressiono love or His people through the sacrice o his beloved son to redeem the sins o mankind. oday, the spirit o the rst Christmas still reverberates amongst us.

Te men and women o the Armed Forces o the Philippines have always been paragons o selfesssacrice, upon which the proession o arms is predicated. We as protectors o the people bravedthe demands o the lie we chose so that others can continuously enjoy a lie o reedom and liberty.

We give up our personal comorts and, when circumstances demand it, we willingly dedicate ourlives so that others may succeed in their pursuit o happiness. We are called to dispense publicservice by eciently doing our traditional and non-traditional roles, which we do with humility andenthusiasm until our course is run. In ullling our oaths, let us always be guided by the ideals orespect to human rights and strict adherence to the rule o law, or only then can we truly be soldierso God and His people.

Let us be inspired by the example o unity, perseverance, and aith o the Holy Family amidstthe trials and tribulations o their journey. Let us welcome the coming year with optimism andrenewed hope, despite the challenges that will certainly come our way. Let the Armed Forces othe Philippines, as one big amily, epitomize the lessons o the Christmas story. As we celebrateChristmas 2010, let us all keep the noble meaning o this occasion close to our hearts.

On behal o my amily, I extend to you and all your loved ones my warmest greetings o a MerryChristmas and a Prosperous New Year. I pray that our loving God will be with us throughout thecoming years.

No matter where they are and no matter the danger

they may be, Soldiers always try to do something

to remember and celebrate Christmas time.

Many soldiers celebrate Christmas far from home whether

in a mess hall in Bicol; or in a bunk in Samar; or trudging

along the hills of Compostela Valley; or navigating along

the coasts of Basilan; or solitarily by the shores of Spratlys.

Hence, Soldiers nd that the best antidote to their Christmas

blues is to spread Christmas cheer and the messages of hope

and love especially to children and spend a time of fellowship

with the less fortunate. Some play Santa Claus by handing out

    candy and gifts and putting a wide smile to an orphans face;

others cook and provide much needed food and other supplies

to poor families in nearby and distant villages. While many

more are spending it in constant vigilance in deep jungles

and marshlands to ensure that everyone else can enjoy the

joyous season of Christmas with their families and loved ones.

Every year, many soldiers readily make this

extraordinary sacrice with hope in their hearts that

this will be appreciated by the Filipino nation by praying

for our troops to come home safe to their families.

The Filipino soldier who lay down their lives on the line

so that others may live strongly epitomizes the spirit and

meaning of Christmas. Verily, the soldiers sense of duty,

deep abiding faith, and love of country which bring forth

joy, hope, strength, and reassurance to the people they

serve are tangibly expressed in all places and at all seasons.
