What is a sokkie?

A sokkie is when people get together,take off their shoes and dance in their socks to the beat of Africaans music.

South African pioneers in the 1800 would stay on farms far from each other. Their houses would have dung floors .To make these floors hard people would throw the dung onto the ground and dance on it(they would sometimes invite their neighbours to dance on it with them.)They would dance until the dung was hard and smooth. This was first called volksdance but now called sokkie.
