So…for the ball that is popped in the air and someone catches it, they still have to tag up before proceeding to the next base. EXAMPLE: There is 1 out and Sally is the runner on 1st, Jenny is the runner on 2nd, and Kate is up to bat. Kate pops the ball up in the air in the direction of the 2nd baseman. The umpire will yell “infield fly”…so Kate is automatically out.

Softball Player Spotlight

How long have you been playing? I have been playing softball nonstop since I was 6 or 7, so about 12 years. It used to be only spring and fall seasons, but I joined a travel team around when I was 15, which added summer tournaments to my schedule.

If you had something to tell you’re your self, what would you say? Don’t be afraid to come onto a new team. Eventually you’ll be friends anyway.

What advice would you give a younger player? Persevere. When I was 6, my dad came up to me saying he signed me up for softball and I had a temper tantrum. I DID NOT want to play. However, I played anyways, and I’ve never stopped.

Never quit. I’ve gotten better, learned more, and pushed myself. If you’re struggling, keep practicing and don’t give up. You got this!

Announcements

(1) SPRING SEASON SURVEY: This survey is one of your chances to tell us how we’re doing. The responses are anonymous, but if you want us to contact you directly then you’re able to leave your email address. An email was sent to you, but the link to the survey is http://goo.gl/forms/NXI0MHQ8T5

(2) SOFTBALL CLINIC: George Mason University has announced their summer softball camps. Youth camps for 7-12 and High School 13-18. The registration link is: http://collegesoftballcamps.com/softball/GMU

(3) FALL REGISTRATION: Spring season is in session and the end of the school year and summer is right around the corner, so you probably aren’t thinking about Fall Softball. However, wouldn’t it be great to go ahead and get your registration completed if you already know that you will be coming back to play with us next season! You always get the better rates the earlier you signup! Fall registration link is: http://www.youthleaguesusa.com/sya/15-16/Welcome.html

(4) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We have open positions on the SYA Softball board. As with any non-profit organization, help is always welcomed (and needed). More now than ever as we have individuals in positions for several years, and as much as they love SYA Softball, it is time for others to come in and help guide this organization.
