distinguished career in the Armys Special Forces, youre now in business for yourself,

taking most of your contracts from a secret organization known only as The Shop.

Together with your old friend Sam Gladstone and your partner, Madeline Taylor, you

Youve learned that a bloodthirsty worldwide terrorist organization has developed

a deadly genetic virus and is threatening to unleash it on the world unless their demandsare met. Your mission: root out the terrorist organization, uncover their secret plans, put a

stop to their operation and bring their leader to justice.

number 1) in your CD-ROM drive in order to play the game.

General Gameplay TipsThe best way to learn the basics of Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix GOLD is to play

through the tutorial level. Thats what its there for!

Shooting innocent civilians is a bad idea.

Your weapon crosshair turns represents your health. When it becomes yellow, you have

taken damage. When it is red, you are close to dying.

To get innocents out of a potentially deadly combat situation, Use them by pressing

the spacebar. This lets them know it is safe to run!

Check your ammo levels and learn to reload your weapon before and after firefights.

Stopping to reload in the middle of combat could cost you your life.

Certain weapons do more damage to some enemies and less against others. The shotgun,

for example, works very well against unarmored opponents and does minimal damage to

armored foes. Experiment to find the best weapon for the job.

Get used to the Best Safe and Best Unsafe weapon functions. Your Best Unsafe weapon

is the strongest weapon you carry but it can hurt you if youre not careful. Your Best Safe

weapon may not be as powerful as the Best Unsafe weapon, but it cant damage you.

You can use the pistol whip and other alternate attacks to shatter panes of glass in

order to move through them. If a pane of glass has taken any damage, you can run and

    jump through it.

If you have trouble jumping/crouching, turn on Always Jump/Crouch in

    the menus.

Use the "Extra Weapon Effect 1 and 2" keys to wield dual weapons when holding apistol or the Uzi. Keep in mind if you are using dual weapons, you can't use accessories

    (flashlight, laser sight, etc.).

If you turn more than 90 degrees in either direction on a ladder, you will fall off. Be

    careful!

    Stealth Gameplay Tips

Remember that louder weapons will allow enemies to find you more easily! When in

doubt, try stealth-based attacks with the knife, the pistol (pistol whip) or the bayonet.

Pressing the Use key when standing over and looking at a dead or unconscious enemy

will allow you to pick him up. Pressing Use again will allow you to drop the enemy.

Getting bodies out of sight is useful for stealth operations.

Combat is deadly, so use cover wisely. Learn to use the Lean commands to look and fire

around corners and to use the Prone and Crawl commands to stay low and out of sight.

MADELINE TAYLOR With the death of Johns lifelong friend and partner, Hawk, The Shop looked

long and hard for a suitable match to Mullins can-do attitude. Although a fully trained

field agent, Taylors specialty is human medical research, making her an invaluable ally

in the fight against chemical and biological weapons.

This sub screen shows available servers running Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix

GOLD on the Internet. This screen also shows the name of the server (e.g. Bob's Arena of

Death), map name (e.g. hospital roof), number of players, game type (e.g. team DM) andaverage ping (speed of connection) for each displayed server. Clicking the Refresh button

will refresh the server list, removing cancelled servers and displaying new ones. Right

clicking your mouse on a server on the list will show you the server's properties and the

names of the players currently in the multiplayer game.

    Start Server

This sub screen allows you to set up your own multiplayer game server.

Maps - Choose your multiplayer map for your server from pre-made maps or randomlygenerated maps.

Type Choose the type of game your server will start.

Deathmatch - Standard multiplayer mayhem where every player is out for himself: Take

the other players out before they take you out.

Team Deathmatch - Team up with your friends to take down other teams of players in the

deathmatch arena. Each team can choose a skin package from one of five unique teams.

Capture The Flag Help your teammates find the enemys flag and return it to your base

for points. Defend your flag at all costs from the enemy onslaught.

Elimination This is a game type that is essentially last man standing, but team-based.

Each team tries to eliminate all of the other players on the opposing team. When a player

is eliminated, he is out for the rest of that round.

Infiltration One team is on the offensive and must infiltrate the other teams position.

The offensive team must steal a set objective and retreat back to their original insertionpoint. The defending team must stop the infiltrators from escaping with the objective

before the time limit expires. Once a player is eliminated, they will not be able to play

again until the round is completed.

Demolition One team starts with a bomb and must set that bomb to detonate in one of

two available areas on the map indicated by a large red X. The opposing team must

defend those sites and eliminate the invading team, or defuse the bomb after it has beenset.

    Server Settings -

Use the Settings sub-screen to set up your server options, including passwords, hostname,

time limit and friendly fire options. Enter a hostname for your server (e.g. Bob's Arena ofDeath) and adjust the settings to your liking. You can set options like time limits, frag

(kill) limits and maximum number of clients (players) you want to be able to join your

game. You can also set up a server password so only friends can join.

Note: If you want no limits, set frag and time limits to "0". The recommended maximum

number of clients is 32 for optimum networking performance.

    Options

Use the multiplayer in-game menus to adjust key bindings, video settings, audio settings

and other options similar to the options described in the single player controls section ofthis manual.

    Violence Lock

This sub screen allows you to enter a password to gain access to the Violence Lock

options just as described in the single player section of this manual. Note that in order forplayers to join your server, their violence lock options must match yours exactly. As

such, it's generally easiest to start a server if you have all of the options turned on or all of

    the options turned off.

    Quit

Clicking the Quit icon will prompt you to continue or end your current game. SelectingNo will return you to the previous menu screen. Selecting Yes will end the game

and return you to your desktop environment.
