Dear Prospective Sponsor, The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Mississippi (SHPE-MS) Professional Chapter has been known for creating and shaping its members to become leaders inside and outside our organization. Many of our active members have been esteemed for experience in research and industry internships. SHPE-MS prides itself on empowering members to make them highly valued leaders for the benefit of our community. SHPE-MS was founded by 11 members in 2012. Since then, our commitments have focused on developing, promoting, and supporting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) initiatives in our local community. According to the most recent U.S. census, Hispanics are the largest minority group in Mississippi, with a growth of 106% between 2000 and 2010. We are committed to the professional development of our members and to the support of Hispanic professionals in Mississippi so they may implement fundamental skills in their careers. Through our many planned events we have been able to fulfill our members’ goals of being involved in the community and fueling their leadership potential. This past year was very important and filled with success for our chapter. We had amazing support from all members and worked very well as a team. Our chapter started offering technical and motivational seminars to provide guidance on how to establish personal and professional goals and values. Members were offered leading roles in individual events and a chance to participate in leadership training, such as NILA2015, SHPE Region 5 - RLDC 2015 and Leadercast 2015, allowing them to develop leadership skills they can implement in their work ethic. We promoted STEM in the local schools by participating as judges in science fairs, briefing more than 320 students about the importance of engineering during national Engineering Week, conducting our first “Noche de Ciencias”, and volunteering for a conversational Spanish exercise during Spanish Week at Vicksburg High School. Finally, our chapter was awarded the FY15 Outstanding Achievement in Equal Employment Opportunity by the Engineer Research and Development Center and was recognized by Region 5 with the Outstanding Community Outreach Award at RLDC 2015. SHPE-MS aims to continue the work discussed above. In order to successfully meet our goals, support and sponsorship from local organizations is critical. Therefore, we would like to respectfully request the opportunity to work with your organization. As a SHPE-MS corporate sponsor, you would promote our chapter within your organization and provide a sponsoring donation that falls under one of the five categories outlined in this packet. You will receive a letter of appreciation, among other benefits corresponding to each level. We thank you in advance for your kind support and for understanding the essence of our chapter’s goal in providing opportunities within an educational forum. Therefore, we encourage you to be part of the success of our organization and confirm your sponsorship level by completing and returning the attached form to [email protected]. For more information, please visit us at www.shpems.org. Sincerely,

Omar Esquilin-Mangual, MECE, PE. President of SHPE-MS

4. Marketing Sponsorship: $1,000 Expenses: Digital art design and web page domain and storage fees SHPE-MS is working on its cost-effective marketing strategies to grow as a successful professional chapter in Mississippi. This is approximately 1% of the total students in this age group. The Hispanic population in the State of Mississippi is 2.9%. Our mission with these events is to engage Hispanic students in STEM initiatives and motivate them to pursue careers in STEM fields. We aim to connect with high school students through the support of the events below.

1. Speakers at Warren Central High School Sponsorship: $50 Date: October 2015 Expenses: Gift cards as incentives for volunteer speakers Warren Central High School requests speakers every year for their 9th grade STEM classes. SHPE-MS members will maintain contact with an established SHPE Junior Chapter. We would like for local engineering companies to make visits, if possible, to give dynamic presentations of the jobs they do within their company. This way, students may be inspired to seek further education and jobs within STEM fields. If a company decides to sponsor this initiative, funds will go towards the Junior Chapter for setting up their own events, such as competitions. A small amount of the funds would go towards transportation of college students to visit the School. By sponsoring this event we hope to inspire outstanding students to grow professionally and have them build networks with different companies that hire at college career fairs. It is also proposed to create a robotics team that will mainly be composed of Hispanic and minority students in Junior High and High Schools in the Vicksburg area. The sponsorship funding will be used to cover material costs and participation fees in this type of competition. Our robotics team will be named after our funding company and SHPE-MS. Members of SHPE-MS and/or our funding company will be mentors of this team.

Chapter Development/Networking: SHPE-MS has identified key events that will help foster chapter development. These events will help members looking for professional opportunities to connect with potential employers and maintain their interest in SHPE-MS.
