The Welsh Rugby Rocks Festival has become one

of the longest running youth rugby festivals

in the world, drawing teams from

England, Scotland, Ireland and

some parts of Europe.

In 2018 we are celebrating the

20th year of the festival, so it

will be even more of a party

atmosphere than usual! we

hope you will join us in

celebrating this special event

on such a milestone birthday.

It’s always a firecely competitive

festival with teams all vying to take away

the coveted Welsh Rugby Rocks trophy.

Our host rugby club Shotton RFC always offer such

a warm welcome to travelling sides that

you’ll feel at home from the moment

you arrive.

The final day of the tournament sees teams compete in front of a jubilant crowd and buzzing pitch-side atmosphere ensures the climax is an event not to be missed. Winners and finalists will experience a presentation on stage.

It’s time to compete against teams from all over the U.K in the group stages of the Welsh Rugby Rocks Festival. The group games determine which cup you will go on to play for in the final rounds. All teams will still be competing for a trophy on the final day.

had in between games.

There is live music at the Kent Rugby Rocks being performed

on stage throughout the day and all around the tournament

venue you will find exciting activities to take part in. All of our

singers are friendly and great at getting the kids involved and

sometimes even the grown ups too!

With both accommodations providing excellent facilities

such as a family activity centre, along with the exciting

excursions, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.

DAY 1We were collected from our club on the

opposite side of the country in Southwold and had

a relatively uneventful journey as the tour rules

were digested and forfeits dispensed. By the time

we were over the Severn Bridge the tour was in full

swing. The hotel was perfect for a tour (whatever

age group) partly because it was bang in the centre

of Cardiff giving plenty of scope for forays. After

monster platters of steak and chips at a nearby

restaurant and a few beers (for the over 18’s) it was

back for an early night ahead of our match - Not!

Having taken the lads on tour every

year since they were U14 including

trips to France, Holland and Ireland it

seemed only right that we took them

(now Colts) to arguably the second

home of rugby - Cardiff, Wales.

Favourite moment (that can be public)

has to be one of our players, James

Scarle, singing and playing the

guitar at an Open Mic night in the

club next door to the hotel and then

being joined on stage by the whole

team in a rowdy and moving, if not

tuneful rendition of Oasis’s “Look

Back in Anger”.

DAY 2Day 2 started with a tour around the Millenium

Stadium followed by lunch and crazier than

usual crazy golf before setting

off to Rumney for the scheduled

match. Playing the Welsh in their

backyard is never going to be a

walk in the park but with no subs

and the night before -

we inevitably came second.

Nevertheless the lads gave a good

account of themselves

afterwards in the host’s

clubhouse despite the coaches letting them down

on some games! All a good warm-up for another

night excursion on our return to the city.

DAY 3Day 3 included paintballing at Go Ballistic - which

they did - before changing into fancy dress in time

for the Kangaroo

Court and a quiet

reflective time in

the city - Not!

Another fine tour

and a new stack of

rugby memories

to savour. Team

and so all went

according to plan.

We took part in the Welsh Rugby Rocks festival, 2017 with a team of U16 boys from

a small town in the South of England. The accommodation was clean and perfectly

set up for a fun-filled weekend. The tournament was really well organised, John and

Sam introduced themselves and remained visible throughout the weekend:

if we had any concerns, asking for help wouldn’t have been a problem.

However everything was outstanding. All of our players and

parents had a fantastic weekend,thanks Team Tours Direct for
