Therapy Dogs are able to touch a place

within us when we are in need that

other humans cannot reach. They bring

comfort, healing, smiles, decrease

stress, lower blood pressure, increase

self-esteem, and facilitate interactions—

among other benefits. Therapy Dogs

can change the entire dynamic of a facil-

ity with their presence.

What does a Therapy Dog do?

Therapy Dogs have a wide variety of

roles. They can work with all ages

from infants to elderly and in a wide

variety of environments. Some are

Volunteer Social/Therapy Teams

where a trained handler and his or her

trained dog visit facilities or work

alongside therapists or teachers.

Some Therapy Dogs are Facility Dogs

with more advanced training and

work with their trained handlers on a

daily basis within a medical or educa-

tional facility.
