Completing this S.B.A would not have been an easy task if done by myself. I thank my mother for providing the necessary assets in order for me to do my S.B.A and also for being there constantly encouraging me to do my work. Reason for Selecting the Area of Research

The Researcher chose to investigate Juvenile Delinquency in Community ‘X’. The reason the researcher chose the selected area is to find out more about Juvenile delinquency in the community from the members of the community. Then to try and solve this problem by suggesting solutions needed to help prevent this problem in the community or discontinue it.

Method of Investigation

The Researcher has chosen to use Questionnaires in order to collect required information. The questionnaires were printed in adequate amount and were delivered to persons in the community in order for me to receive my data and analyze it. It consists of four (4) background questions, six (6) questions relating to the causes of the problem, three (3) relating to the effects of the problem and four (4) relating to solutions of the problem.

This instrument of collecting data provided with me with the following advantages:

It is very much a cheaper procedure. Time that it took to collect data was fast. It is a guarantee of identification anonymity.

Procedures for Data Collection

In Community ‘X’ there are approximately 100 households. The researcher chose to print 20 copies of the questionnaire for distribution in the community. I went through the different methods of collecting data and found that a questionnaire was a better option for me collecting data. Specific houses were selected so that I could ensure a return of the questionnaires after being answered. These houses were given a time frame of 48 hours in order for completion and then be collected. In these households only 35 percent of them were males and 75 percent were females.

Analysis and Interpretation of Data

In the research of Juvenile Delinquency in Community ‘X’, data showed that 35% of 20 community members believe that the main cause of juvenile delinquency is poverty while only 9% of the 20 community members believed that peer pressure was the main cause of juvenile delinquency in their community. Another cause which would be the following cause after poverty, due to the fact that 30% of the community members believe that the lack of parental control and supervision is the main cause of juvenile delinquency. However 26% believe that the lack of education is the main cause of juvenile delinquency in their community.

Therefore the data collected proves that Poverty in Community ‘X’ is the major cause of juvenile delinquency.

The research showed that the main effect that would fall onto a delinquent from juvenile delinquency would be the consequences on the adolescent’s college and career choice. 52% of the selected community members believe that which is a huge difference compared to the other selections. While the least chosen effect is the denial from family members, which only 5% of the community members chose. This could be due the fact that majority of the community members are females. Also the lost of freedom, 21% of the community members chose this while 22% chose mental disorder as an effect of juvenile delinquency.

The data shows that in Community ‘X’ the major effect of juvenile delinquency on the delinquent would be the consequences on the adolescent’s college and career choice.

In Community ‘X’ 40% of the 20 community members believe that the solution for juvenile delinquency is juvenile rehabilitation. 15% of the 20 persons believe that the Juvenile’s involvement in extra-curriculum activities is the solution for the problem, which is the least chosen. Family help and support 25% believed that this is the solution to the problem while Provision of education 20% believes that this is the solution.

Data shows that the majority of the selected community members believe that the solution of juvenile delinquency is juvenile rehabilitation.

2) The major effect on the delinquent in Community ‘X’ is the consequences on the adolescent’s college and career choice.

3) The best solution in Community ‘X’ to solve juvenile delinquency is juvenile rehabilitation.

Recommendations and Implementation Strategy

In Community ‘X’ the researcher recommends that seeing that the community is a poor community, persons are to ensure that they have jobs in order to support their children financially so that they won’t have to become a delinquent. If the child is old enough and cannot function in school then it is recommended that they learn a trade in order to make life easier for their family.

The major effect of juvenile delinquency in Community ‘X’ is the consequences on the adolescent’s college and career choice. The researcher recommends that knowing this parents or guardians are to ensure that their children are focused in school and on their goal.

The best solution for juvenile delinquency in Community ‘X’ is juvenile rehabilitation. The researcher suggests that this is indeed an effective method of solving the problem and a center for juvenile rehabilitation should be built in the community.
