What are Performance Tasks

• Performance Task: a way to assess what students know, understand, and can do at the end of a unit.

• It is what students know and can do, and is authentic to student learning.

Your Turn

• You may choose to work with the same group from last time or you may work with your colleague to develop a performance task for your unit plan.

• Use the literacy skills sheet as you develop your performance task.

• Be prepared to share whole group.

Guiding/Essential Questions

Three Types of Guiding Questions

• Factual Questions: these are locked in time, place, or situation.

• Conceptual Questions: these transfer over time and space.

• Provocative Questions: these have no right or wrong answer and are intended to stir debate.

Examples of Guiding Questions

• How did native peoples in Europe and South America use and adapt to their environment?

• Is economic stability in Africa possible?• How can immigration present both

advantages and disadvantages for people moving to a new region or nation?

• Take this time to create 3-5 guiding questions for your unit plan.

• Refer to the social studies wiki for additional resources
