Dear Social Studies Colleague: March 17, 2009

The Social Studies Provincial Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association will be holding its annual conference this year at the beautiful Chateau Lake Louise in Lake Louise, Alberta on October 16-18, 2008. This year’s theme is “Global Footprints: A Legacy of Sustainability.”

The enclosed floor plan shows the forty-seven 2’ x 6’ tables (NOT booths) available in the display area. All tables will be skirted, have two chairs, and be rented for $490.00 each. Plug-ins are available; however, extension cords will not be provided. Our primary display area will be located in the Temple Hall area, with foyer tables set up also in the Heritage Hall. The Chateau Lake Louise will provide security for displays, as the Temple Hall will be locked up at night. However, if you choose a foyer table in the Heritage Hall, this area cannot be locked up because it acts as a hotel corridor. If displayers wish to see a complete map of the display area, the Chateau Lake Louise, and all other amenities the Chateau has to offer, please go to the Chateau Lake Louise website at http://www.fairmont.com/lakelouise/

Also, enclosed, please find a form to list your first three table choices. Space will be awarded on a first come-first served basis with reference being made to the postmark/date on the envelope, fax, or e-mail of your reply. Should we not be able to give you one of your first three choices, I will contact you immediately to give you first chance at the remaining spaces. Payment in full of $490.00 per table should accompany your form. The deadline for booking and paying for space will be June 30, 2009, or when total space is booked, whichever comes first.

I have also included a list of prices for advertising in our conference booklet should your company wish to purchase some space. Every conference delegate receives this conference booklet as a part of the registration kit and the booklet usually goes back post-conference with the delegate to his/her respective school and school division.

Sunday, October 18, 2009 - Displays are open!!! - 8:00am-11:30amSunday, October 18, 2009 - Dismantling displays - 11:30am-1:30pm***We expect that the exhibits will be removed on Sunday afternoon by 1:30pm at the very latest.***

We also ask that you supply our conference committee with, at minimum, ONE SAMPLE PRODUCT from your company (ex. mugs, texts, maps, atlases, posters, software, gift certificates, etc.) that will be given away as a door prize. We would ask that you hand in your door prize items to Barb Nagel, the Displays Coordinator, upon setting up your display on Friday, October 16. Door prizes are always a big hit and our conference committee uses them to attract more people to the displays area. Also, if your company wishes to sponsor a coffee break or social event, provide other giveaways, or items that could be included in the registration kits, please see the attached sponsorship information sheet at the end of this package. We will promote your extra contribution in our advertising, program booklet, and at the sponsored social events.

Over the years, the Social Studies Council has been pleased to have the opportunity to give organizations that support social studies education a chance to share their materials and expertise with teachers. As in the past, we hope to be able to collaborate with you in the future in supporting this year’s annual conference. The projected attendance for this conference is 500 teacher delegates from across Alberta and the nearby provinces and territories. You will make contact with a lot of educators!

Should you have further questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at any of the numbers or e-mail address below. I have included two sets of contact numbers, one for during the school year and another set to reach me during the summer months. I look forward to hearing from you and having you join us in Lake Louise!!!

Sincerely,Barb Nagel
