International Video Upload CompetitionClassical Category

• The Social Music Works International Video Upload Competition, in its inaugural year, will explore the global accessibility and community building of music making through the use of social media.

• Applicants are not required to travel to a physical audition site, freeing them to audition at the time most convenient for them. Travel expenses, transportation logistics, and time constraints are no longer barriers to entry, opening the competition field to participants worldwide!

• The Competition is open to all applicants who meet the age eligibility requirements. The 2014 Competition is limited to PIANO, but will expand to include more instruments and voice in future years.

• Age eligibility is based on the applicant’s age as of January 20, 2014.Scan and receipt of a Proof-of-Age Document is required.Examples of Proof-of-Age Documents include:– Birth Certificate– Passport– Driver's License– Student I.D. with photo and birthdate

• There are five age Divisions, as follows:– Division 5 (age 22 & under)– Division 4 (age 18 & under)– Division 3 (age 15 & under)– Division 2 (age 12 & under)– Division 1 (age 9 & under)

• Cash Awards will be presented to the First-Place Winner of each Division.

• Additional Cash Awards may be presented as determined by the judging panel.

• Cash Awards are in USD $ and will be delivered either by check or wire transfer.

PRELIMINARY ROUND• All repertoire must be MEMORIZED.• All repertoire must be performed on

an acoustic piano (upright or grand).

Application Fee: USD $20NON-REFUNDABLE• Applicants will choose one (1)

SOLO work from the following list:– Baroque/Classical Era– Romantic/Impressionist Era– Contemporary Era

• Please Note: for this Competition, Baroque and Classical are grouped as one Era, Romantic and Impressionist are grouped as one Era, and Contemporary is its own Era.

• Work must be originally written for solo piano. No arrangements, transcriptions, or "easy versions" of repertoire. Exception: concert transcriptions; for example: Liszt's Rigoletto Paraphrase (Verdi).

PRELIMINARY ROUND• Application Portal opens on Nov 20, 2013.

• Applicants must submit online application, scan of Proof-of-Age Document, and application fee by Dec 20, 2013.

• Applicants must upload a video of a live performance of the work selected, NO CUTS or EDITS, between Dec 21, 2013 at 12:00 AMand Jan 20, 2014 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time (Los Angeles, CA, USA).

SEMI-FINAL ROUND• All repertoire must be MEMORIZED.• All repertoire must be performed on

an acoustic piano (upright or grand).

Application Fee: USD $35NON-REFUNDABLE• Up to twenty-five (25) Semi-Finalists

will be selected for each Division.• Semi-Finalists will be announced on

Feb 10, 2014.

• Semi-finalists will add one (1) additional work from the repertoire list above, but the work selected must be from a different Era than the work submitted for the Preliminary Round.

• Work must be originally written for solo piano. No arrangements, transcriptions, or "easy versions" of repertoire. Exception: concert transcriptions; for example: Liszt's Rigoletto Paraphrase (Verdi).

SEMI-FINAL ROUND• Semi-finalists must upload a video of a live performance of the new work

selected, NO CUTS or EDITS by Feb 20, 2014 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time(Los Angeles, CA, USA).

• Semi-finalists may submit a replacement video of the same work selected for the Preliminary Round OR may keep the video originally submitted for the Preliminary Round.

• All video uploads submitted by Semi-Finalists will be featured on the Competition YouTube Channel and Website. Clips will be shared via various social media networks to promote the artistry of each applicant.

FINAL ROUND• All repertoire must be MEMORIZED.• All repertoire must be performed on

an acoustic piano (upright or grand).

Application Fee: USD $50NON-REFUNDABLE• Up to ten (10) Finalists will be

selected for each Division.• Finalists will be announced on

Mar 10, 2014.

• Finalists will add one (1) additional work from the repertoire list above, but the work selected must be from the remaining Era, not previously selected.

• Work must be originally written for solo piano. No arrangements, transcriptions, or "easy versions" of repertoire. Exception: concert transcriptions; for example: Liszt's Rigoletto Paraphrase (Verdi).

• All video uploads submitted Finalists will be featured on the Competition YouTube Channel and Website. Clips will be shared via various social media networks to promote the artistry of each applicant.

• Finalists will be eligible for various social media"Audience Choice Awards.”

• Winners will be announced on Apr 10, 2014.

• All video uploads submitted by the Finalists in each will be featured on the Competition YouTube Channel and Website.

• Clips will be shared via various social media networks to promote the artistry of each applicant.

• Finalists will be eligible for various social media"Audience Choice Awards" (cash awards) ranging from USD $250–$1,000.

International Video Upload CompetitionClassical Category: Special Multi-Genre Prizes• Social Music Works encourages multi-

faceted music making and is proud to announce that outstanding applicants who participate in more than one of the three Categories (Classical, Jazz, Variations) are eligible for Special Multi-Genre Prizes.

• To be eligible, applicants must receive a minimum of 50 points in each of two categories; applicants who receive the minimum of 50 points in each of two categories will be considered for the Cross-Discipline Prize. Applicants who receive a minimum of 50 points in each of the three categories will be considered for the BRAVURA Prize.

International Video Upload CompetitionClassical Category: Special Multi-Genre Prizes

• Please Note: BRAVURA Prize winners are not eligible to also receiveCross-Discipline Prizes. In the case of points ties, cash award amounts may be redistributed.

• In each Division, a Cross-Discipline Prize will be awarded to the eligible applicant with the highest point total across two categories, and a BRAVURA Prize will be awarded to the eligible applicant with the highest point total across three categories in the amount of USD $1 per point.

• The cash award range for Cross-Discipline Prizes is USD $100–$1,000.The cash award range for BRAVURA Prizes is USD $150–$1,500.
