Dominant Representation

There are two dominant representations in my film and they basically stand for good and evil. The protagonist is David Star and the antagonist is Tank, although they are of a similar age they are of different social backgrounds. The other characters that would feature in the film would linked to the backgrounds of the main characters. For example Tank would essentially be considered friends with thugs and gang bangers whilst David could be considered a more friendly family man.

David StarDavid Star is a similar to the famous Rocky character, however David is younger.David Star is a Caucasian working/middle class person who grew up in south east London as part as a big family. He is fairly well educated and essential fits the middle class stereotype although he is still street wise. Because David is a boxer he would come across as being very masculine and can be considered a typical alpha male.

TankThe Tank character is of a lower class background and is often involved in criminal activities. Tank can be considered the antagonist in the film and he represents evil similar to the Drago character in Rocky. The character Tank is of Caribbean origin and can be relied upon to fit the negative stereotype of young urban youth who get mixed up in gangs. Tank also dresses the part which reinforces the stereotype and his aggressive attitude suits attributes of the alpha male who fears nobody.

Supporting CastThe characters that will come under this category would be

the people associated with the main characters.

David Starr is the protagonist in my movie

so he has to come across good and pure to

our audience and therefore will be surrounded by

characters who fits this stereotype. This would be middle class family

and friends of no particular race or age.

However Tank, who is the common stereotypical bad guy, is part of a gang ands therefore surrounded by

gang culture. The characters therefore are mostly young

low class / working class youths of mixed race which

may challenge the stereotype of audiences

expecting to see young black males.
