Even though delicious won't be called delicious much longer, we still use it to save and share bookmarks. This handout will help guide you through the setup and tagging process.

Bookmarking with delicious What is social bookmarking?Social bookmarking is a way of URLs online so that you can access them from anywhere and tag and share them with others. Delicious is a great tool for curating content.

Keep up with the latest news, online resources, and information in your sector5. Discover websites, online resources, organizations and individuals in your area of interest6. Letʼs get started...Step 1: Register.

• Visit http://delicious.com

• Click on in the top right-hand corner, to create an account or go to https://secure.delicious.com/register

• Download the browser buttons for:- Firefox (preferred): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/delicious-extension/- Google Chrome: http://www.delicious.com/help/quicktour/chrome- Internet Explorer: http://www.delicious.com/help/quicktour/ie- Other browsers: http://www.delicious.com/help/bookmarklets

• Restart your browser. You should see the buttons installed on your browser toolbar. Here’s what they look like in Firefox:

Step 2: Add your first bookmark.

• Next time you come across a webpage you want to remember, click the TAG button. If you’re not already signed in to your delicious account, you will be asked to do so. After you enter your username and password, click on the TAG button and complete the pop-up form, entering tags:

• If you have trouble coming up with tags, look at the recommended or popular tags at the bottom of the form. Note that you can also use other languages, including Arabic, for tags!

• You can also add notes about the link as reminders for yourself or comments to others.

• You can make the link private if you prefer not to share it.

• Also note the “Send” tag (below). This is a way in which delicious users can send links to others through delicious, via Twitter, or by email. For example, want to share a link with us, type for:socialmediaexchange or go to https://secure.delicious.com/settings/people/network and add socialmediaexchange to your network. We’ll add you back. You can also use Network bundles to create a bookmarking group.

The Send tab allows you to send links to other networks through delicious.

Step 3: Retrieve your bookmarks.

• Clicking on the button and you will be taken to your delicious homepage. Alternatively,

you can click on the button and a list of your tags and bookmarks will appear in a sidebar in your browser.

• Explore the ‘tags’ links on the right to filter and display different groups of your bookmarks.

• Of course you can always go to http://delicious.com and select ‘your Bookmarks’:

Other functionalities to try:1. Link delicious to your Twitter account.

2. “Explore Tags”: Search for a tag or a combination of tags of interest to you and see what others have already curated.

3. Check out the “Hotlist” to see what’s most popular on delicious at the moment and “Fresh Bookmarks” to see what’s newest.

4. Share information with your group by agreeing on a unique ‘tag’ you will use on information you want others in your team to see. For example, SMEXbeirut will use madski11s to share links of interest).

5. Check out the possibilities for linking delicious to your blog at the bottom of the Settings page.
