OVERVIEW
• Personal identity is influenced by others
•Family, friends, school, sports teams, the media, culture and religion.
•These people and groups influence us in different ways at different stages of our lives
• Very influential when we are younger. We are dependent on them.
• We often adopt our families view on issues as our own
• Examples?
FAMILY
• Our peers and the media have a greater influence on us as we get older
• Choice of clothing, music, TV, social profile, language we use is heavily influenced by this characteristic
PEERS AND THE MEDIA
• Tend to keep us within prescribed boundaries
• Along with our parents and school, religion may provide traditional manners, morals, values and behaviors.
• Examples?
CULTURE AND RELIGION
• Society is made up different groups who have different beliefs an values
• These values within the community can be representative of laws active within the community.

• This happens when the ‘importance’ placed on different values differs.
