Dearest Key Club,

Welcome back Hawks!! This months newsletter is going to be long! I hope you are as excited as I am about the year finally starting. Okay so before I start to get off topic, let me talk about this months newslet-ter. First of all the theme, I wanted to incorporate our school colors red and black, but was having a hard time with gold. Forgive me for only using black and red. Also the theme is based off like a newspaper and

vintage like flowers and such. I think the two go well with each other. What about you? I love to hear all of your input and I hope that you help me make the best newsletters, by giving me criticism and such. Also send in those articles and visuals! Come on you guys can do this! It has been tough on me since my grandpa is go-ing through dementia and such. But seeing all you Key Clubbers makes me feel better. I am so glad Key Club has started up once again! (: Guess what hawks? RTC is on October 13 and I hope to see all of you there! I cant wait to scream, laugh, smile, dance and learn with everybody there. RTC is super fun and you learn so much during the work shops! We voted on our T-Shirts already! I cant wait to get mine and show off my Northwest Key Club pride. As RTC will be coming to an end soon I hope all of you attend Fall Rally South. It is right around the corner.

I really hope all of you send in your articles! Why wouldn't you want to be in the newsletter? (: Look forward to next issue!

As you can tell we have been promoting Key Club within our school a lot. Why? We want everyone to experience Key Club at least once in their life time. Key Club literally changed my life. I think it will change everyone else's also. The community service is fun and makes you feel so good about yourself. YOU are

making a change to the community and in so many other people lives. I hope every-one knows what Key Club is all about.

Stay dedicated.

Freshman Orientation

School was just around the corner, but before school started, there was freshman orientation! The reason I was going was because we were trying to promote Key Club! Seeing all the kids mixed facial expressions about our club because they weren't sure what Key Club was. They asked the obvious question, "Do you guys make keys?" But our board would tell them what we're all about. My favorite part throughout the day was actually showing s group of freshmen our "How do you feel?" cheer. Some were a bit overwhelmed but some loved our enthusiasm which put a smile on my face! Being a senior now reminds me of my freshman orientation. I remember see-ing Key Club, and I've known about if for awhile because my brother was in it, so I already knew I was going to join. I remember them as a bunch of hyper outgoing kids, and I knew I wanted to be like them.

First Meeting

HOW DO YOU FEEL? Well, I honestly feel so honored to be a part of this amazing club. Two years have passed and I have not once felt like I have wasted my time here in our Key Club. Our first meeting was impressive and very convincing, in my opinion and thoughts from multiple newcomers. Some members were shy but not shy enough to show off some of their energy and raise their voices on just the first day. I was really happy to see that everyone was participating in the ice breakers and cheers! I am REAL-LY excited to see how much service our club is going to complete and how much fun it will be to be altogether doing what we do best: MAKING A DIFFERENCE. The events are always fun for me personally, so I figure it will be fun for everyone else. I can’t wait to see everyone open up to one another and work together as a team to make this year the most productive and spirited as possible! Some of my favorite events are always held at the Springs Preserve, so I am looking forward to those events the most. I’m eager to see what our board members have in store for us to do. I want every-one to experience what I have experienced: feeling like I belong and being myself around so many people who are different, but alike in so many ways. We’ll be meeting a lot of new people. We’ll be introduced to big opportunities. We’ll be getting closer as a family, as we always do. I am proud to be a member of the world’s biggest club. I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT ALL. Let’s do it BIG!

Hi, I'm Janelle Lucero and I'm a junior. I've been in key club ever since fresh-men year and this is my third year joining. I am looking forward to making more friends and a ton of memories as always. I'm also looking forward to doing community service with my group of friends who've stuck with me and this club ever since. I want to do as much as I can for my club and division this year by joining committees and helping the board officers with a few things. Besides that, now that I'm an upperclassman, I'm excited to guide the freshmen and help them with anything they have questions about. Our first meeting which was held on August 29th was fantastic! There were a ton of new and eager faces to join this school year's club. Plus, we also had the Lieutenant Governor, Johansen Pico, introduce himself and knowing that he represents Northwest is awesome! I thought the incoming freshmen looked excited, but at the same time, they also looked so shy and timid. By the end of the year, they won't be the same shy and timid freshmen anymore. I also thought that the board officers did a great job having that be their first meeting of the new school year! As they showed the old videos of 2011-2012, it made me realize how amazing it truly is to be in key club and how much I miss those who cannot be in our club anymore. Key club may be expensive, but it's all worth it. After the first meeting, I could tell it's going to be another great year serving with new people and having so much fun!

The red Rock 5k was amazing! We got to the Red Rock Country Club at about 6:30am. This is where we start-ed getting instructions, where to be and such. Not just Northwest was there, Cimarron Memorial and Durango were there. Some of us were assigned at booths to pass out water. Others were put to cheer for the runners, and then I was part of taking the times for the people. I got to take the time for the 1sr place runner, so the could verify that the electronic timer was accurate. After everyone was settled we were free to go explore until 9am. So we got to see what each booth was about and get free trials of cakes and drinks. There was also a 90 second boot camp challenge that some of us participated in and got free sunglasses. We also got to do a group stretch with the runners which is always fun. Then before we knew it we were hopping, jumping and dancing to the beat of music. We were doing Zumba, even better we were doing it with a whole bunch of runners. That was a great experience. Also when the runners needed a push at the end of the race we ran with them.!
