MES - make up and fake tan used to make them look more glamorous. Both Male and female. Props used exaggerate the roles of the characters e.g. big expensive handbags. Setting for TOWIE is in Essex and the story plays on the stereotypes of the setting. Lighting – lighting of scripted realities set the mood for the programme and has a diamond effect. Sound – There is always an opening theme setting the mood and allows the audience to relate the music to the programme. Camera they use all different types of shots (one shot, two shots, ES etc.)

Camera – Free hand camera work to make it seem more realistic. All shots blend together. MES – in ach opening are very different Sound – dramatic music creating suspense, non-diegetic sound and diegetic sounds vary according to soaps. Eastenders only uses diegetic sound to create realism. Editing – Hollyoaks is edited together to reflect a fast lively, crazy feel to the storyline. Coronation Street edits slowly together.

Television Novel. Normally spoken in Spanish and aired in Latin America. They have a Catholic upbringing, sex is a very taboo subject, so the storylines are not supposed to be believable unlike British Soaps.

Sound – the non diegetic sound used is dramatic music and exaggerated to set the mood of the scene. Lighting – has an orange warm tint to it to make it seem un natural and false.

Costumes are more posed and lest realistic, the makeup is more natural. The lighting makes it look really sunny to fit the Australian stereotypical weather. The shots show a lot of background They don’t like to limit to ECU

They are made to not look constructed and made to feel real.

Emmerdale

Plots are open ended.
Have they covered the use of: Lighting Editing Mise en Scene Sound
Editing made subtle to make it a natural transition between scenes. Continuity is used. Natural Lighting used. Only diegetic music is used and any music used is for the theme tune and if there is a radio on in the background.
Any extra information? Catharsis – experiencing what the characters experience and feeling you can relate to the character which helps you deal with the problem.
