A group of students carried out an experiment to study the effect of air
movement
on the rate of transpiration using a potometer shown in Diagram 1.1
The apparatus was placed on the laboratory table under a moving fan at
speed 5. The stopwatch is started when the initial air bubble position is set
at P or zero as in the Diagram 1.1. The time ta!en for the air bubble to
move a distance of 1"cm from P to # is recorded in table 1.$.
The whole experiment is repeated by placing the apparatus under a moving
fan at speed % and then with the fan off. &ach time the air bubble is
returned to its original position 'point P( before starting the experiment. Table
1.$ shows the results of the experiment.
