The Snowtown Township was proclaimed on 17th December 1878 by the Governor of South Australia, Sir Thomas Jervois, to perpetuate the name of his private secretary, Thomas Snow. The town is situated 105.5 metres above sea level with an average rainfall of 389 mm, Snowtown is a prosperous settlement 148 km north of Adelaide.

The district is noted for its high quality wheat, wool, fat lambs and first class stock breeding.

Meeting dates and events of the district can be found on the Community Calendar prepared by the Lions Club and available at the end of each year from Snowtown Newsagency.

SWIMMING POOLThe swimming pool is a school/community pool and is situated at the school. The pool is a `limited access pool', which means it is intended to be used solely by persons living, working in, or attending the area in which the pool is located. Persons may obtain tickets after completing CPR training (every year) and a retrieval test (once only) and on payment of the prescribed fee. CHURCHESANGLICANSecond Street, Snowtown. Offers services of the worship of God on the third Sunday of every even month. The parish is worked from Clare. Archdeacon M Thomas (8842 2835). The church offers spiritual help to those who ask for it and the Parish Priest is always willing to talk to those who may need his advice or other help.

LUTHERANPastor David Eckermann (Brinkworth) 8846 2158The Lutheran Church is situated on the corner of West Tce and Tenth Street. Services are held every Sunday, and times for services are on the church notice board. Everyone welcome.

AGRICULTURAL BUREAUMeet usually 3rd Thursday of month in the Snowtown Hall Supper Room, or on farms as arranged. Membership open to anyone who is either directly of indirectly engaged in any branch of agriculture or related industry. Meetings advised by monthly newsletter or meeting card. CENTENARY PARKThe controlling body for the various sporting clubs affiliated with Centenary Park. The oval and pavilion are available for hire. A handy person maintains the park area. The sporting clubs that have facilities at Centenary Park nominate two delegates each to form the general committee. A playground is available at all times.

COMMUNITY CLUBThe club is situated in the grounds of Centenary Park at the northern end of the town. The club is open 5 days a week from 5:00 p.m. On Saturdays, if sport is being played, the club is normally opened from 12 noon to 12 midnight. Teas are served every Saturday night and anyone is welcome. Special functions can be arranged eg birthday parties, dinners, sporting bodies etc. We are always looking for new members. SPORTING CLUBSNETBALLThe Blyth/Snowtown Netball Club plays in the North Eastern Netball Association against teams from Burra/Booborowie/Hallett (BBH), North Clare, South Clare, Riverton/Saddleworth/Marrabel United (RSMU), Brinkworth/Spalding/Redhill (BSR), Eudunda and Mintaro/Manoora. Our colours are navy blue and white. Netball is played between April and September. We have 7 senior teams and 4 junior teams (primary school age). Practices are held weekly and alternate between the Blyth and Snowtown courts.

Snowtown Football Club. - Main purpose is to maintain facilities and cater for home games.

CRICKETAt present the Snowtown Cricket Club is in recess. Local players, play for clubs in surrounding towns. Cricket is played between the summer months of October to March.

TENNISThe Snowtown Tennis Courts and Clubhouse are situated in Centenary Park, which is at the northern end of the town. Tennis is played during the summer months on Saturdays between October and March at Junior level only. The Club is affiliated with the Northern Yorke Peninsula Assoc. which includes teams from Moonta, Kadina, Wallaroo, Pt Broughton, Bute and several other small towns or areas. Juniors Practice at present is held on Thursday nights beginning at 4:00 p.m. Various memberships are available to all persons on payment of subscriptions to the Club Treasurer or Team Captain. A Social Competition is played on Thursday nights between October and March beginning at 8:00p.m. Each team consist of 2 men and 2 Ladies and involves all doubles matches with modified scoring.

BOWLSBowling Club is situated at Centenary Park at the northern end of the town. The Mens Bowling Club plays pennants every Saturday during summer. Ladies play pennants on Thursdays. Night Owls also played most Wednesday nights in summer. Practice voluntary - Greens usually available any time except tournament days or Ladies Pennants days.

BASKETBALLSenior grades play Monday nights during the summer months mainly at Redhill on the Broughton Amateur Basketball Assoc. Courts. We play against Mundoora/Broughton and Redhill, in Mixed teams. Colours: Double blue. Anyone can join. Club courts at Centenary Park.

Junior Basketball is played on Friday nights during the summer months on courts at Centenary Park. Local competition. Notices sent out through the school. Teams picked according to number available, No practice night. No uniform as bibs provided. Open to school children that do not play in Monday night competition.

GOLFThe Golf course is situated at the end of Glen Davidson Drive, Snowtown. It consists of an 18-hole course with sand scrapes, is 5601 metres long and contains two lakes, one with salt water, the other fresh water. Golf is played during the winter between March/April and the end of September. Competition for Ladies is on Wednesday, Men on Saturday, with Social and Junior competition on some Sundays. All persons are welcome to play when the course is open. Non members pay a small Green Fee and various other types of membership are available by completion of an Application Form and acceptance by the Committee.Clubhouse phone: 8865 2081.

CROQUETSituated in Centenary Park between Bowling green and playground. Pennants are played between 2 Clare, 2 Balaklava, Blyth and Eudunda teams on Wednesdays. 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Practice arranged to suit weather conditions. Flat soled shoes essential. Subs: $20. Social members: $10. No age limit. Gala days in neighbouring districts are held on Mondays throughout the year. All welcome.
