1977 Jake Burton Creates first true snowboard with

bindings

1985 Snowboarding

becomes recognized as an

official sport

2004 with 6.6 million

participants

JibbingThis style of grinding

derived from skateboard, jibbing is a freestyle

snowboarding technique of riding on any surface other

than snow. This can be anything from rails to trees. This is a trick style that is meant for the park but has been adapted into a more urban setting as riders try

to ride more and more objects that weren't

intended for a snowboard, like our friend to the left.

Freestyle Riding Freestyle riding is one of the more technically

difficult types which consists largely of terrain park riding which is anything from jumps to rails to different snow obstacles that only the most skilled should attempt to do tricks off of. This is where most of the Olympic snowboarding competitions are from.

Half pipe riding has Recently emerged being innovative and difficult.
