Welcome back to term three, I really hope that you all had a good break and the children enjoyed their holidays. I know we certainly all did!
Farewell Mr. Bek
It is with sad news we inform you that Mr. Jason Bek has left South St P.S. He has accepted a position as Principal of Charles Latrobe P – 12 school in West Heidelberg. He would like to thank the whole school community for the support and encouragement he has received over the past 18 months. I know he is saddened to leave a great school. We all wish Mr. Bek the very best for his future challenges.
I am very excited to be here at South St as the Acting Principal. I was privileged to work at the school in term 2 and saw firsthand the excellent work of the teachers, the positive attitude of the children towards their learning and the friendliness of the school community. I am looking forward to a busy term in preparation for the school concert.
School Musical – Once Upon a Time in Nursery Town
We have begun practising for our musical ‘Once Upon a Time in Nursery Town’. The musical will be held at Lowanna College on Thursday September 11. If you can help out in any way (e.g. costumes), please see Mrs. Belinda Johnson.
Special Religious Instruction
At the end of term 2 all P-2 Grades received a notice from the Department which explains that parents now have to sign a special consent form to allow their children to do Religious Instruction. It is very important if you wish your child to participate that you sign and return it ASAP to your class teacher. This is a change from what used to happen, it used to be that you opted out on your enrolment form, this has now changed. Any questions then please contact me.

Indigenous Literacy Foundation Great Book Swap
This year our school is supporting the work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation by holding a Great Book Swap on National Indigenous Literacy Day, Wednesday 3rd September. I am looking for donations of children’s books (pre-loved or new) in good condition suitable for Grade Prep to Grade 6 students. Please bring any donations to Mrs Blunt in Room 8. On the day, students will be able to bring in a gold coin donation to buy a book. Proceeds will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) works to put books into the hands of children and families in remote Indigenous communities across Australia. In the past four years, with the support of many people and organisations including schools, they have sent more than 100,000 new, high quality books to over 230 remote communities. The ILF runs an early literacy project called Book Buzz and has published and funded, in partnerships, 37 community literacy projects. Please help us support their work.

Cakes will include muffins, chocolate crackles, sherbet cones, chocolate balls etc. These goodies are being supplied by the wonderful families of our grade. Thankyou, Mrs. Houston.
