Introduction The overall objective of this lab is to make you more familiar with how to backup a Microsoft Exchange 2013 Server Database Availability Group (DAG).

This lab also guides you throughperforming a DAG Backup and using the Single Mailbox Recovery (SMBR) tool. The environment includes three 24-35GB mailbox databases each with a copy on three different servers all joined to a Database Availability Group. One of the databases on one of the servers has an archive backup to simulate a unique data retention requirement.

Lab Objective and Agenda After completing the lab prep steps, you will use the SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange GUI from NetApp to perform a backup using the backup wizard. Following the backup demonstration you will use the Single Mailbox Recovery software to restore a deleted email to an individual mailbox. This lab will use the GUI interface.

Prerequisites In order to use this lab successfully, the following are the recommended prerequisites:

• clustered Data ONTAP® familiarity

• Basic MS Exchange understanding

Lab Activities - Lab pre-Demo/Setup In this activity a functional email system will be demonstrated and an email will be sent from the Administrator account to the user “db2_user1” inbox. This email will later be included in a backup operation, deleted and ultimately restored using SMBR in a later lab demonstration activity.

1. Click the Taskbar stortcut for Outlook 2013.

2. Press New Email.

3. Enter db2_user1 in the To: field, add a subject and body to the email.

Lab Activities - Perform a DAG level backup using SnapManager for Exchange The SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange GUI can be used to manage backups for an entire Microsoft Exchange Farm running in a Database Availablity Group (DAG) from a single wizard operation. In this activity we will perform an SME backup using the Backup Wizard while demonstrating that the SME GUI is DAG aware.

1. Open Remote Desktop Connection Manager(TIP: make window fullscreen before connecting to maximize Remote Desktop screensize)

2. Connect to MB1

3. Click shortcut on MB1 to open SnapManager for Exchange.

4. Left-click and select DAG1 and wait for it to finish loading.

5. Select Backup Wizard from the Actions menu.

Lab Activities - Backing up DB1 on MB1 with a SnapVault relationship The LUNs residing on the server MailBox1 for Database 1 (E:\ for Data, H:\ for Log) have a pre-existing SnapVault relationship between SVM1 and SVM2. This simulates a database in an Exchange Farm that has unqiue retention and archival needs from other databases in the farm potentially configured for higher profile mailbox users in an organization. In this activity we will perform a backup of a single database on a mailbox server that has a SnapVault relationship and enable the archive option to also send a copy to update the vaulted copy of the database with the achive configured.

1. From SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange on MB1, Left-click and selectDAG1 and wait for it to finish loading.

Lab Activities -Delete Email and Examine Exchange Admin Center (EAC) The Exchange Admin Center is a web UI in Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 that replaces the legacy management UI (Exchange Admin Console MMC Snap-in). In this activity we will delete an email from the mailbox on the server then use the EAC to determine the database being used by a specific mailbox to prepare for a restore later.

1. Launch the Google Chrome web browser to access the in-lab URL: https://cas1.demo.netapp.com/owa (Alternatively the Outlook 2013 software on the jumphost can be used by adding the account to the Outlook client).

2. Enter the credentials, DEMO\db2_user1 and Netapp1! press sign in.

Lab Activities - Using Single Mailbox Recovery (SMBR) Single Mailbox Recovery allows an administrator with proper credentials the ability to extract a single email (or multiple emails) from a NetApp SnapShot backup and restore to an individual mailbox (with proper credentials)seemlessly without requiring an entire database restore. The backup being restored from can be an archived SnapVault backup which allows for a space efficient, cost efficient, and longer term email archival that does not impact database size on a production farm. In this activity we will restore the email created at the beginning of this lab from a specific database for a single user using the user’s credentials.

1. Return to the RDP on MB1 and SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange

2. Select Restore under DAG1

3. Expand DB2>Local Backups

4. Find and select a backup with a data/timestamp from a backup taken in the previous lab activity that includs the email created at the beginning of this lab guide.

5. Press the Run SMBR Action.

Lab Activities - Use SME rapid reseed on a suspended or failed database Exchange databases have the potential of falling into a failed or suspended state if there is an unrecoverable divergence beween the active database and the database passive copy requiring administrator intervention. Using Microsoft standard Exchange reseeding functions can often take hours on larger databases and depending on network connectivity between datacentersand greater attention. Using NetApp storage, if you have a healthy database copy on another server in the DAG and a snapshot copy (SME backup), a passive failed or suspended database can be rapidly restored within seconds using the SME GUI. The Rapid Ressed allows the administrator the ability to restore the health of the DAG as quickly as possible so that they can move onto determining and resolving the root cause of the disruption. In this activity we will manually force a passive database copy into suspended state and use the SME GUI to perform a Rapid Reseed operation.

Lab Activities – Using an RBAC user to perform SME activities A service account is a user account created explicitly to provide a security context for services running on Windows Server. You specify a service account when you install or update a service.The SnapManager service account must meet the following requirements:

• The account must be a domain user account

• The account must be a member of the Mailbox server's local administrators group

• The account must be assigned to one of the following Exchange Server management role groups:

o The Exchange Organization Management role group

o A custom management role group that allows all SnapManager operations or a subset, as described below

A management role group, which is part of Exchange Server Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), grants SnapManager the ability to execute specific Exchange Server PowerShell cmdlets. The Organization Management role group includes all of the required SnapManager permissions, but also includes many other tasks not required by SnapManager. If you need to restrict Exchange Server access to specific SnapManager operations, use a custom management role group instead. If you use a custom management role group, you can grant permissions to all of the PowerShell cmdlets that SnapManager requires or a subset of the cmdlets.

In the lab, a custom management role group, called SMERbacRole Group, has been created. Permissions have been granted to all of the PowerShell commandlets that SnapManager requires. A user called SMEAdmin has been added as a member to this management role group. This user can perform all the SnapManager activities.

In this activity, we will demonstrate how SMEAdmin, the RBAC user, can perform backup operations.

1. Click the Windows Powershell button in the Taskbar.
