Snakes come in many sizes. Some are so little that they fit in your hand.

Others, like this snake, are very, very big! A man or woman can’t pick up a snake this size. Many people must do it.

Snakes do not have legs. They have scales all over them. The scales look wet, but they are not wet. The scales help the snake slide over grass, rocks, and sand.

This snake can slide over sand. It slides toward its prey. Snakes can slide over stones as well.

The scales on a snake can make shapes. Look at the shapes all over this snake.

This snake shakes its tail. That tells you not to come toward it. Its bites can kill.

But many snakes’ bites don’t kill. These people went toward a snake and held it. This snake is safe. You can pick it up and run your hand over it.

This snake hides in the grass. You find many snakes on land. You find snakes on land and in the water.

This snake swims. Some water snakes do not bite, but this snake does. Its bite can kill a man or woman.

Many snakes come out of eggs. These snakes are hatching. They will slide toward the rocks. They will find somewhere to hide.
