SNAG GROUP MEETINGS

•This term our SNAG meetings have focused on no-smoking day, litter, nutrition/healthy food and planning the trip to the Velodrome.

•We have a meeting once a month to discuss subjects such as oral health, litter, energy drinks, smoking and lots more. It’s not only the selected pupils who can participate as we hold workshops, visits, fruit tasting, drop-ins etc.

AIM OF THE SNAG GROUP

What is the aim?

• To discuss the issues surrounding diet and exercise in our school and how we can improve them

• To inform others of the importance of a healthy diet

WHAT THE SNAG GROUP DO?

• Have regular meetings to discuss ways to improve nutrition and overall health and wellbeing around the school

• Discuss the issues surrounding diet and exercise and what could be done to improve this

• Encourage pupil voice on these matters

• Represent your views – so if you have anything you wish to raise at the SNAG meetings you speak to your year representative

WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR• Promote pupil nutrition plus H&WB

• Completed our own ‘better eating, better learning’ audit to see what we as a school are doing at present and what we could change or do better

• Being involved in H&WB events for the past 3 years

• Link in with the PSHE lessons so H&WB can be discussed

A FEW THINGS THAT WE’VE DISCUSSED:

• Health and well being brochure - will be sent out to parents to inform them about our group and the importance of diet and good health and wellbeing in school

• Energy drinks – impacts on health and behaviour. Discussed some of the misconceptions around energy drinks.

• Legal high – misconceptions and how they are dangerous.

• Highlighting H&WB - Different ways we could highlight H&WB around the school e.g. walk to school day, non smoking day, fruit tasting etc.

• Physical Activity- with the PTPE we have got more extra curricular activities on at lunchtimes and intervals so we can exercise instead of go to local shops and eat unhealthy options
