WE’VE RECEIVED A BUNCH OF NEW EQUIPMENT, SO SEE OUR WEBSITE FOR ALL OF THE NEW ACTIVITIES!!!

SMP DAYS OF SERVICE (MONDAY 17 APRIL THROUGH SATURDAY 22 APRIL) – OPEN TO ALL!!! All details (days and times for each event) are on our website (www.smp.mccscherrypoint.com) !! Transportation will be provided for all events. Times posted to website will be meet/return times at Roadhouse, but you can also POV separately. Can register as a Command, smaller group, or individually! Max participation for these events is requested, operations permitting, per MARADMIN 637/16. Here are some of the events SMP will be hosting during this special week of Service:

Tryon Palace, Camp Caroline, Neuse Riverkeepers Park Clean Ups, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Veterans Volunteering, Beach Clean Up, Croatan National Forest, Military Missions in Action, Boys and Girls Club, Veterans Organic Garden, Lookout Rotary Road Race, Animal Shelter, Tucker Creek Middle School, and several more!!

APRIL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: (LOA’s are provided within 5 days; these are open to ALL active duty service members, dependents, DoD! Transportation provided to active duty, with the priority given to single/unaccompanied active duty service members).

Tyron Palace Lanterns on the Lawn Family Campout Volunteering (3/31 and 4/1). o 3/31 – Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1230 (transportation provided). Assist with food prep. o 4/1 – POV only. Meet at Tryon Palace NLT 1300. Assist with glow walk, s’more making, beverage servers, and guest helpers. You are welcome to also bring your tent and camp

out overnight, but not required! Those that are not staying overnight will be completed at 2230. (Dinner included)! o 4/2 – POV only. (For those staying overnight on 4/1, there is an additional volunteer opportunity to help with breakfast and tear down). (Breakfast included)!

SMP Days of Service (4/17 through 4/22). We have lots of opportunities all week long; see our website for complete list/day and to register! Special Olympics Swim Invitational (4/8). Assist our special Athletes in this fun swim competition. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0830. Will return early afternoon. Azalea Festival Concert Volunteering (4/3 – 4/9); POV only. Volunteer at the Azalea Festival in Wilmington! They are looking for 300 volunteers to assist as concert stagehands, beverage service, ticket service and more! Volunteers will receive free food, drinks, t-shirt, and LOAs. Register to volunteer at www.HonorOurMarines.org. Additional info by calling 910-805-4412. Tryon Palace Easter Egg Hunt (4/15). Help the kiddos out with their Easter Egg Hunt, assist with crafts and activities, and more! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0830. Will return around 1530. Neuse River Senior Games (4/24 – 5/12). Volunteer and assist our Athletes at the Senior Games! Activities include: Bocce, football, softball, horseshoes, basketball, shuffleboard, cycling, croquet, track and field, corn hole and swimming. There are a variety of shifts and days available, so please see the SMP website for more information and to sign up. Camp Corral (4/16): Volunteer to help out our families with Fallen Heroes and Wounded Warriors. Food and beverages are included. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return at 1400 Limited to four volunteers max. Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required. Veteran’s Organic Garden Volunteering in New Bern (Saturdays 4/8 and 4/29 and Fridays 4/14 and 4/21). We will be assisting the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Gardens with a variety of construction and planting projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800. Will return by 1230. Volunteer with a Veterans’ Retirement Community – Carteret House (every Monday): Bond with Veterans and swap stories at one of our local retirement communities. Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday): Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Animal Shelter (every Saturday): Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue from 0800-1200. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700. WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer! Special Olympics Spring Games (5/4). We’re looking for a TON of volunteers to help out our Special Athletes during this fun field meet!! Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0745. We’ll return around 1330. Lunch and beverages will be provided. Reenactment on the USS North Carolina Volunteering (5/18 – 5/21). This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the United States Marine Corps Historical Society! We are looking for a select few Marines to participate in a five-day reenactment aboard the USS North Carolina in Wilmington. Marines will be outfitted in WWII uniforms, eat and lodge aboard the ship, and interact with the public and the ORIGINAL crew of the USS North Carolina, the highest decorated battleship in WWII. Marines will be also able to learn about and participate in the amazing history of Marine Corps Heritage in WWII. Additional APRIL and FUTURE Volunteer Events!!! We have new opportunities come up each week; please check our website for additional April volunteer events! Look out for these events coming up in May: Special Olympics (5/4), Chicod Elementary Field Meet (5/12), WWII USS North Carolina Reenactment (5/18-5/21), and Havelock Middle School Proctoring!

APRIL SPECIAL EVENTS: UFC FIGHT NIGHT (4/8) UFC 210 – Light Heavyweight Championship. Cormier vs Johnson, Weidman vas Mousasi, Calvillo vs Gonzalez, Alves vs Cote, Brooks vs Oliveira, and many more!! Prelims kick-off at 2000; Main fight starts at 2200. Free! Single Parent Discussion Group (4/11 and 4/25. 1130-1230). We’re starting a Single Parent/Dual Active Duty Parent group. Drop in to network, discuss challenges, share experiences, and share resources that work for you. Time frame is 1130-1230 in the Roadhouse library room; drop in as available (It’s also Taco Tuesday at the Roadhouse). SMP Council Meeting (4/13 at 1430 at the Roadhouse): ALL ARE WELCOME!!! SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and QOL initiatives. Volunteer Appreciation Dinner (4/25 @ 1730-2300) SMP is throwing a HUGE party for our volunteers, complete with a delicious (free!) Italian Dinner, music, games, and awesome prizes! If you’ve volunteered for SMP, we want to show our appreciation to you!! (Open to all who have volunteered for SMP regardless of marital status, service branch, rank, etc.). Extreme Driving Simulator (4/7 @drop in anytime from 1000 -- 1500; Naval Health Clinic parking lot). Join us in this FUN one-of-a-kind event with the NC State Highway Patrol. The NC State Highway Patrol will be bringing a 3D virtual driving simulator for participants to experience firsthand the effects of impaired driving. The event is being held in the parking lot of the Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point and will be open from 1000-1500 for all to drop in and try the simulator. Fishing Seminar (5/11). Learn from the local experts on fishing techniques, resources, locations, and strategies! For beginners or avid anglers. 11 May from 1700 – 2000 at T&E Building, room 171. To register, call 252-466-8413. Autocross (5/20 – 5/21 ). Pre-registration required online at www.motorsportsreg.com by midnight 5/14. Authorized patrons can also register day of, with a $10 late fee. OPEN TO ALL (military, retired, dependents, DoD, and properly vetted civilians). Volunteer opportunities available both days. Active Duty/SCCA Members: $30/one day or $50/ for two days. Non-SCCA members or Non-active duty: $40/one day or $70/two days (includes SCCA membership).

APRIL WEEKLY EVENTS: Mondays! Pub pong from 1800-2000! The winning team (2 players) will win a 14” pizza. Tuesdays and Thursdays! Poker and Cigar Night at 1930. Cards Against Humanity at 2030. Basketball at 1830. Gamer Tourney at 2000. Wednesdays! Volleyball at 1900. Trivia Night from 1900-2100. There will be a new theme each week, and the wining team (4 members max) will win a large pizza. Fridays! Karaoke is back from 2000-close. Bible Discussion Group! Every Tuesday at 1900 in the Roadhouse reading room. FREE SMP Golf Clinics (every Wednesday): Have fun while learning golf fundamentals or work on your existing technique! All range balls and equipment will be provided. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1645, or directly at the Sound of Freedom Golf Course at 1700. Clinic is one hour.

ROCKIN 80’s WEEK (10 April – 15 April): Rockin 80’s Movie Festival (4/10): Head over to the Roadhouse for some totally bodacious 80’s movies!!! Enjoy the Goonies, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Labyrinth, War Games, Back to the Future, Beetlejuice, and tons more!! 80’s Game Show Nite (4/11 1830 and on!): Travel back in time to our wicked cool Game Show Nite! Pick and choose which games you want to enter (including Family Feud, the Newly(dating) Game, Hollywood Squares, Press Your Luck, and Name that Tune)! Games kick off at 1830, but show up whenever and have some fun! Rockin 80’s Party and Cookout! – FREE FOOD (4/13 1800-2300): Rock Thursday night with SMP’s 80’s PARTY!! We’re firing up the grill and we will be serving food at 1900! WE WANT TO SEE YOUR BEST 80’s OUTFITS. BRING YOUR METAL HAIR, MULLETS, LEG WARMERS, SHOULDER PAD, MC HAMMER PANTS, and NEON COLORS!!!! Gift cards will be awarded for best two costumes. We’ll also be having 80’s Trivia (2000), Gladiator Night (1800), and the Totally Rad 80’s Volleyball Competition(1800) going on! More details on our website! Canvas and Cork ( 4/15 at 1930). Where painting, beverages, and friends make for an awesome night! (Think Wine and Design). Please see our SMP website on information to download your free ticket. Cypress Landing Golf Tournament (4/1) Free!! Join SMP for an awesome day of golf at Military Appreciation Day! Everything is included: transportation, golfing, carts, equipment, food, drinks, and prizes. Limited space provided on a first registered basis. Transportation priority will be given to single or unaccompanied active duty service members, however, married active duty service members are welcome to register as well! Basic knowledge of golfing and golf course etiquette requested please; all skill levels highly encouraged SMP Carolina Rebellion Concert and Camping Trip (5/4 - 5/7) $169. Includes 4 days of camping, 3 full days of concerts, special VIP Campground Concert on Thursday night, and transportation!! Show line-up includes performances by Seether, Chevelle, Avenge Sevenfold, Soundgarden, Korn, The Offspring, Three Days Grace, A Perfect Circle, Def Leppard, All That Remains, Skillet, Citizen Zero, Volbeat, Sum42, the Cult, Of Mice and Men, Taking Back Sunday, and MANY MORE!!! Registration and deposit of $100 required by 3 April; first registered/first served. If trying to make deposit after 3 April, please see the SMP website for availability, which will be noted. (This SMP trip will fill up fast and has sold out the last three years)! We're meeting at the Roadhouse at 1200 on Thursday (5/4) and will return on Monday morning (5/8) around 0300, depending on traffic. ( Please note that we WILL be staying through the last show on Sunday, so make plans accordingly). Please also note that you will need to bring a tent, sleeping bag, and pillow (not provided). Tents can be reserved on a first come/first served basis from Cherry Point Outdoor Connection. You can also request a Special Lib/PTAD request letter for your Command from the SMP Coordinator by emailing name, unit, and MOS to Jen Merlo at [email protected]. SMP and DEVIL DOG DARE (FREE!). SMP has received a number of spots for Devil Dog Dare, to include PAINTBALL. Two packages available! Includes the activities, lunch, and drinks at NO CHARGE to the Command/Marine/Sailor. o The “Fun” Package consists of the Zipline, Drop Zone, and Paintball (includes gear and air with 300 paintballs. Lunch and beverages included!
