Your friends and family.Lots of mums-to-be ask their friends, partner and family not to smoke in the house or around them because secondhand smoke also harms their unborn baby.

Secondhand smoke is the smoke blown out by a smoker, plus the smoke that comes out of the lit end of a cigarette.

More than 80% of secondhand smoke is invisible and odourless. So no matter how careful you think you are being, your family, friends and pets still breathe in harmful poisons, leading to poorer health. Make your SmokeFree Promise at www.smokefreelancashire.co.uk

There are lots of ways we can help you quit. Just ask your midwife or contact us direct by calling Freephone 0800 328 6297 (Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am- 5pm. Outside of these times please leave a message and contact number so we can call you back) or register at www.quitsquad.nhs.uk using the self-referral form.

It’s never too late to quit....No matter what stage you’re at in your pregnancy. It can be difficult, but smoking is much more harmful to your baby than any stress quitting may bring.

The risks of smoking in pregnancy are serious. Every cigarette you smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, so smoking when you are pregnant harms your unborn baby. Cigarettes can restrict the essential oxygen supply to your baby. As a result, their heart must beat harder every time you smoke.

If you quit smoking you will reduce the risk of…• Low birth weight

• Stillbirth

• Miscarriage

• Premature birth

• Heart defects

• Sudden Infant Death

GIVE YOUR BABY THE BEST START IN LIFE

IT’S NEVER TOOLATE TO QUIT...‘Every cigarette you smoke restricts

the oxygen to your baby, so they will feel

the benefit as soon as you stop smoking’

FACT:80% of tobacco smoke is invisible to the naked eye and lingers for a long time.

Secondhand smoke harms a developing fetus. Opening windows doesn’t protect mother or baby from secondhand smoke.

A smokefree home is safest for mother and baby, both during and after pregnancy

Make your SmokeFree Promise at www.smokefreelancashire.co.uk

FACT:when you smoke a cigarette, thousands of harmful chemicals are introduced into the bloodstream, which are then transferred to the baby through the placenta. This happens for each and every cigarette you smoke, so cutting down on your smoking rather than quitting completely will still have a harmful effect on your baby’s wellbeing.
