When the rocks break in to small pieces it is called weathering

Weathering is mainly of threetypes

MECHANICAL WEATHERING

During the day rocks expand due to the heat of the sun.Changes in temperature and the freezing of the water in the cracks of the rocks cause mechanical weatheringDuring the day, the heat of the sun cause the snow to melt and water fills the cracks in the rocks.

CHEMICAL WEATHERINGSometimes the nitrogen and carbondioxide in the atmosphere dissolve in the rain water.When the rain water dissolved with nitrogen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere falls on the rocks , chemical reactions takes place between the minerals in the rocks and the rain water.As a result of this, there can be disintegration of rocks.This is called Chemichal weathering

BIOLOGICAL WEATHERINGWhen roots of the trees penetrate into the cracks of the rocks and small creature make their homes in these spaces.These also causes disintegration of rocks.This is called biological weathering
