We have through the past eight years from our initiatives developed an approach that we call CIRCLES OF CHANGE. It is an approach that we have learned by working intensively in change processes – with individuals and their communities. 

Each CIRCLE OF CHANGE consists of THREE PILLARS (key change elements) where THE RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUAL is an essential puzzle piece in each of these pillars – as a personal values-based leadership development programme, as an entrepreneurial skills development programme and as a way of leading a life in gratitude and service. Background Our initiative has since January 2008 been echoing its impact in South African Prisons, challenged communities and throughout the Western Cape, South Africa. It started with the first seed planted in Brandvlei Maximum Prison by our Founder Karina Andersen.

The SmilingOne Foundation is a trust and registered as a non-profit organisation established for the objective of carrying out the SmilingOne CIRCLES OF CHANGE (COC) Initiative for the benefit of South African high risk communities.

OUR VISION IN ACTION 1. We facilitate CIRCLES OF CHANGE (COC) in highly challenged South African communities establishing a foundation

for development with our personal values-based leadership program: THE RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUAL.

2. We educate CHANGE AGENTS who facilitate dynamic COC processes within their communities which include:

prisons, families, schools, youth at risk, businesses and organisations – in society at large.

3. Our CHANGE AGENTS are ROLE MODELS who also assist the important phase of Re-Integration, reducing the

recidivism rate by helping parolees to build the bridge back into society, back home into their families and

communities.

4. We are an EMPOWERMENT ARM for our beneficiaries, their families and communities. We do not do it for them.

We do it with them. ”Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a

lifetime.” The COC empowers the journey of each student towards sustainable livelihood, operating in an Abundant

Exchange.

5. We strongly believe in SUSTAINABILITY and that everything brought to a community must be able to stay and be

nurtured within the community for continuous learning and growth.

THE CHANGE AGENT PROJECTS FOR THE WELLBEING OF SOCIETY

As the Change Agent enters full COC Activation inspiring project ideas shape and are given birth to hand in hand with the personal and entrepreneurial development of the Change Agent. Some of these projects become SmilingOne in-house projects others become the start of a small business and/or NPO. It is an important puzzle piece in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the Change Agent. Everything is possible with a fully activated COC.Change Agents gave birth to the following projects:(2015) SmilingOne Responsible Staffing initiated by Change Agent Chris Plam (on the sketch board)(2015) SKY Gallery initiated by Change Agent Franklin Esau (on the sketch board) Both projects are part of our upcoming Resource Centre to launch 2016

- (2014) CMD PROJECT COC2 (Central Music District) run by Change Agent Franklin Esau in Elsies River(soon we are opening our first recording studio & broadcasting / radio)

- (2014) CAR PROJECT COC2 run by Change Agent Malcolm Booysen in Ocean View(Malcolm and his team are getting our first Change Agent Car ready for the road)

- (2014) BALLROOM DANCING PROJECT COC2 run by Change Agent Monwabisi in Langa- (2010) ECD PROJECT run by Vuyiswa & Ma Esther in Nyanga guided by Change Agent Franklin Esau

(two amazing women who love and guide the children of the Nyanga East community)

SMILING ONE CHANGE AGENT Through our 8-year extensive research and education of Change Agents we have come to understand so much more of

the impact from COC Activations and how the ripple effect can heal and build communities - simply by being touched by

the transformation of a Change Agent. The projects mentioned are just a few of many wonderful initiatives that are

birthed in such a process. Each Change Agent brings something unique that is important to awaken and gently channel

into living mindfully and purposefully. This includes a significant contribution to Society - living an inspired life that

inspires others.
