Challenges and main directions

Customer challenges = Intergraph’s challenges due to closer relationships and dependence on our solutionsOver the last 3 years, Intergraph focus with SPI was primarily in increasing the efficiency through focused investment in reducingtechnical debt (TR’s) in the application areas most used by the customers for executing projects or maintaining operating facilities.Result was v.2009 released end of October 2009, delivering quality improvements – recognized already as better than v.2007 by certification, support and customers - and limited functionality. This was in part enabled by gradual and significant new functional enhancements developed in v.2007.x service packs while working on v.2009, delivering solutions to the customers who were in production on v.2007 platform and combining them into v.2009 Service Pack 1 released early May; it also delivers significant additional reduction in technical debt both through fixes and retesting of the previously reported problems.

Several customers already upgraded to v.2009 and v.2009 SP1 and use these versions in production for major projects or operating sites while a majority go through evaluation and testingMain focus remains on v.2009.x to provide significant incentives to upgrade for customers who are still on both v.7 and v.2007 – large customer base will take time to transition.Both new functionality and continued reduction of technical debt will take placeHot fix mechanism allows for quick solutions turnaround but requires changes in the SPI upgrade architectureFY2010 sees major Intergraph investment in SPI – addition of ~ 25% more resources for the product with potential significant further increase in FY2011, as part of the renewed focus on schematic solutions

V.2009 SP1 release new features

Release plans and schedules

The main objectives for the planned v.2009 Service Pack 2 are:– Support of the Windows 7 planned to be adopted by many clients as

primary OS late 2010 and early 2011; additional infrastructure support will include MS SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008;

– Same as in v.2007 service packs it will deliver additional incremental functionality, driven by real project needs

– Maintain the robustness of the product achieved in v.2009Original Service Pack 2 scope was split into 2 parts, deliveringWindows 7 compatibility before the end of 2010 and the rest of the functionality by April 2011 (tentative)V.2007 SP7 planned for summer 2011 – roll-up of hot fixesV.2012 planned for H2 2012; will include support for new platforms (Oracle 11), new functionality (Browser Wizard, Control & Logic Diagrams, etc) and continued customer issues resolution (TR’s)

V.2009 SP2 release features

Support new infrastructure platforms (Windows 2008 server, MS SQL 2008, Windows 7 client)Allow multiple line connections for instrument (related integration support for automation when retrieving drawing from SP P&ID is planned for SP3)Improved specifications and process data management including:

Summary & conclusions

Dozens of functional features added in 2008, 2009 and 2010 – need to train and re-train users who mostly grew on v.6 and v.7 with v.2007.x and v.2009.x new functionality, especially in the areas of the drawing deliverable generationRecommend transition to v.2009 to benefit from continuous improvements in functionality and qualityIncreased resources will allow to deliver more functionality in the near to mid-termCustomers and Intergraph should engage to identify areas and specific functionality where SPI can deliver most value for the users – functionality, efficiency, quality, integration – ideas highly welcome!
