INTRODUCTION
Smart School
• 1996 – Ministry of Education Malaysia has enacted the Smart School concept
• One of the ‘flagship in Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)
• 1999 – 90 schools (Boarding school and daily school) have been selected to implement it
• Help students try to achive its full potential in the most suitable way rates and different learning style by using computer technology.
• Help students meet the challenge of the Information Age.
OBJECTIVES
Manage efficiently and effectively the resources
and processess required supporting the teaching-
learning functions.
Students, teachers, administrators and parents are
better prepared for the challenges of the
Information Age.
Malaysia’s National Philosophy
Developing the potential of individuals in holistic
and integrated manner.• To produce individuals who are intellectually,
spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced and harmonic, based on a firm belief in and devotion to God..
• To produce a thinking and technology-literate workforce
• To provide opportunities to enhance individual strengh and abilities.
3 Core Vision
Pointed by Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr.
Mahathir Mohamad during Launching the MSC on
1st August 1996.1. Teachers will need to change their role in the
electronic classroom from being information providers to counselors
2. Success in the Information Age to create a curriculum where people learn how to learn.
3. To facilitate a wider adoption of ICT to boost capabilities in every field including education.

Teachers use computer laboratory for teaching only four
times per month
Technology tool in teaching and learning can waste time.
A score of 2.7 is given by students who were not very
satisfied with the performance of computers provided in
school
62.4 percent of students said that their teachers had used
computer to teach lessons during the class
Technology Infrastructure
Computer Lab is a project initiated by MoE in year
2000, which aims to provide students additional
access to personal computer (PC) during or after
school hours.
The allocation of PCs in schools is proportionate to
the number of students, such that 13 PCs are
allocated to schools with between 100 and 399
students, 21 PCs to schools with between 400 and
799 students, and 42 PCs to schools with 800 or
more students.
It Coordinators (ITC)
Responsible for supporting who will responsible for
supporting teachers in the overall deployment of
multimedia and other technologies.
Lack of training provided.
Around 90 percent of ITCs learnt their ICT
knowledge on the job and substantial 54.5 percent
attented private training centers for courses.
IT Facilities
80 percent of respondents in some research felt
that the ICT facilities were not satisfactory.
Hardware and software failure were commonly
cited as was the reliability of Internet access.
Power shortage was a problem as well, but largely
in rural areas

The 1Malaysia Laptop Computer Programme is one
of the plans of government under the National
Broadband Initiative (NBI) with the objective of
enhancing the rate of broadband accessibility.
School Stakeholders
Teachers • Must been trained in the use of information
technology• Encourage students to be independent and proactive
in using ICT facilities
Students• Consequence of thinking, and good thinking is
learnable by all students• Student’s own desire to learn are very important
and play a big role to realize the Smart School objective
Parents
Research has shown that students do better when
their parents are involved.
Parents can play a major role in helping Smart
Schools provide individualized education for
students.
CONCLUSION
Cooperation from all Malaysian whether students,
teachers and parents needed to achieve the objective
of Smart School to produce a knowledge society that
is critical, creative and innovative, to produce
technology savvy individuals for the Information Age
and to cultivate life-long learning based on
Information and Communication in Technology.
