What is AMI (aka Smart Metering)?

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

AMI is a smart metering solution that provides two way communications between an AMI system and various metering devices

An AMI system is capable of collecting & analysing meter data, including meter energy usage, events, power quality information and many more

The Customer Interface Unit (CIU) simply plugs into electrical outlet in the house. The CIU

provides an interface for the customer to check electricity consumption, rate information,

instantaneous power etc. In prepayment mode, the customer may enter

credit tokens into the keypad

The split meter is typically installed outside the house, in a street or

pole top kiosk

The PLC communications links the CIU to the

meter.The CIU must be paired

to the meter (using meter serial number)

a meter software tool

- Prepayment values may be saved in text file format or exported to MS Excel

- Powerful on site (or workshop) fault finding features which enables the analysis & capture of instantaneous values on site

- Same values may be remotely read by the Smart Meter system
