path to purpleAn innovative path to a bachelor’s degreeWinona State University has partnered with Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) to allow students to begin their education at RCTC, then transfer to WSU or WSU-Rochester and select from several undergraduate programs. This program, known as Path to Purple, is a great option for many students who wish to earn a bachelor’s degree. Students are able to take advantage of the Path to Purple program in a variety of ways:
• Students can directly enroll in RCTC as part of the Path to Purple program to earn a bachelor’s degree awarded by WSU-Rochester. Courses may be delivered through the classroom, interactive television (ITV), and/or online.
• Students can directly enroll in RCTC and work toward a bachelor’s degree offered by WSU on the Winona campus. There is a prescribed time for these students to “leave” the community college and “begin” WSU studies in Winona.
• Students can initially enroll in RCTC and then make independent decisions as to when they want to apply for admission to WSU. WSU’s transfer policy provides flexibility in transferring. See page 15 for transfer requirements.
• Students who do not initially qualify for admission to WSU can enroll in RCTC to gain sufficient academic standing to qualify them for acceptance to WSU.

Transfer students bring a driving sense of purpose to our campus. Our academic conversation is tremendously enhanced through the students who pursue their bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees here.
For more information on transferring to WSU-Rochester, see page 15.
“I witness the value of our partnership between RCTC and WSU on a daily rotation through the life stories of our students. They are so very grateful for the opportunity created and shared here. For many students, their ability to complete the dream of a bachelor’s degree hinges on location, location, location—Rochester! The collaborative efforts are bursting with opportunity for continued success and growth.”

“As a transferring Path to Purple student, I went to visit with a WSU-R advisor and by the time I left that first appointment I had applied to WSU, the College of Business, my specific program, and had my remaining college courses planned out for me. It was the easiest transition I could have imagined.”

“Winona State University-Rochester has been an essential partner of the Intercultural Mutual Assistance Association for many years. Student service learning opportunities—especially to WSU-Rochester social work students—have been available since 1998. For many of these students, this was a life-changing experience that connected them directly with refugees and immigrants from various countries. This experience enriched students’ lives. At the same time, it enriched the lives of the clients they served, IMAA staff, and other volunteers.”
