LEMKEN Disc Cultivator Smaragd

The expectations of stubble cultivation have changed. Inthe past the stubble cultivation was used with priority forweed control and soil loosening. Today most fields arefree of weeds due to the use of herbicides. Thereforeonly a few weeds germinate.Today volunteer cereals and large quantities of trash arethe most important reasons for the stubble cultivation.Combine harvesters with wide cutting widths up to 9metres create a big quantity of straw and the availablechoppers are often not able to cut it up and spread itevenly. The more important it is to use a stubble cultiva-tion method suitable to these conditions.

Stubble cultivation today

With shallow cultivation with special designed wingshares in the first pass, failure grain and trash will be in-corporated into the ground close beneath the soilsurface. The volunteer cereals stay in the top soil layerand can germinate immediately. When it is burieddeeper, it germinates one season later. The second pass will be done approximately 2 weekslater. Now the working depth is 10 – 15 cm deep. Thegerminated crops will be cut and uprooted. The Smaragd incorporates the organic matter deep andeven in the ground.

The frame consists of two bars in connection with a par-allel suspension system which carries both the disc as-sembly and the rear roller. This enables a quick depthadjustment, by means of pins, and an exact depth con-trol of the Smaragd cultivator.Due to the parallel arrangement of the roller/ disc unitthere is no need to adjust the individual disc whileadjusting the working depth of the cultivator. The simple change of the depth limit pin’s position en-ables the roller to be quickly moved forward, providingbetter weight distribution for transport purposes. The box section frame is manufactured from microalloyed fine grain steel for low weight, high strength anddurability.High underframe clearance and row distance guaranteeblockage free operation in heavy trash conditions. To prevent ridges forming between working passes, outer disc assemblies are recommended. They are easilyfitted and designed to fold inboard for transport.

Easy working depth adjustment

Damage from large stones and sub-surface rock is pre-vented by the Non-Stop mechanism which smoothlytrips back, once beyond the obstruction it powers thetine back into the soil. The system protects the tines, shares, discs and frame. The high release height ensuresa free flow of trash and problem free operation evenwhen set at maximum operating depth. The coil springdesign is robust and withstands the highest shock andpermanent loads. Due to the design of the bolted over-load safety device units the point easily penetrates.A vibration effect is produced by the Non-Stop mecha-nism which assists in loosening and fracturing the soil. The system is recommended for consistently dry andhard soils. All Smaragd cultivators are fitted as standard withadditional shearbolts including the Non-Stop models.Standard models may be updated on the Non-Stopspecification.For especially high hectare performance the overloadsafety device units of the Smaragd cultivators withworking widths of 6, 8 or 10 metres can be deliveredwith a central greasing as option. Maintenance time isreduced.

LEMKEN Smaragd and Solitair

After stubble cultivation the LEMKEN combination ofSmaragd and Solitair 9 KA is ideal for minimum tillagework. The lifting of the Smaragd disc cultivator is inde-pendent from the Solitair 9 KA seed drill and guaranteesproblem free setting-in and lifting on the headland. Whenchanging the working depth of the disc cultivator the seeding depth keeps constant. With the adjustable trailerunloading the weight can be transferred optimally to thesemi-mounted implement. So a perfect working quality –even with different seed rate levels of the Solitair – is en-sured.

The combination

The air brake trailer axle with large depth wheels guaran-tees high working and driving security with maximumtrack width (admitted for 8 t total weight and 50 km/h).This means that the soil is protected when in work andensures safety when travelling on roads.

The trailer

Forward-looking mulch seeding technique

Because the drill attachment points with all LEMKENsemi-mounted implements are the same, the Solitair 9KA pneumatic seed drill can be very simply combinedwith all of them. The Smaragd disc cultivator is also available with hydraulic lift linkage, which enables thecombination with other seed drills or following imple-ments.

Due to the individual adaptation, the use of the hydraulicsystem is possible with tractors that have different hy-draulic requirements. The operation of the Smaragd andSolitair 9 KA requires four double acting and one singleacting spool valves. When using a 6/2 valve one doubleacting spool valve will be saved. With an elec tronic con-trol box all functions of the Smaragd and Solitair 9 KAcan be operated by two double acting spool valves, only.

Multiple use

The Tandem double roller, whichconsists of a scrolled tube bar rollerand a flat bar roller each of 400 mmdiameter is very well suitable for op-timum crumbling and reconsolida-tion. The intensive crumblingproduces a fine shallow surface tilthwhich is ideal for volunteer and weedseed germination.Especially for minimum tillage use,the use of the double roller as follow-ing implement is recommended.Due to the special position of thedouble roller when rolling overstones it moves independently fromthe Smaragd without lifting the culti-vator, so the working depth is main-tained.On light soils also a tube bar roller of540 mm diameter may be used.

The double rollers

For direct seeding of intermediatecrops during cultivation the Smaragddisc cultivator can be combined withsuitable seed units. The seed is broadcasted by means of tubes. Thefollowing implement ensures a goodcrumbling and reconsolidation andthe intermediate crops can germi-nate immediately and evenly.

Seeding of interme-diate crops

In addition to tube bar- and doublerollers there is a toothed packer roller available for the Smaragd 9 indifficult working conditions. Due tothe simple scraper adjustment a per-fect work without sticking even inhumid and heavy soils is possible. The use of the toothed packer rollerprovides a high bearing capacity andan optimal reconsolidation.

The toothed packerroller

Efficient and universal

Also for the incorporation of interme-diate crops the Smaragd disc culti-vator can be used efficiently andcost saving. Even in fields with ahigh rate of intermediate crops theSmaragd works clog free with excel-lent working quality. Trash will bemixed optimally with soil and cantherefore rot immediately.

Incorporation of in-termediate crops

The fully integrated straw harrow en-ables a perfect straw managementthrough precise distribution of strawand organic matter. When workingdiagonally to the combining directionthe straw is collected and fed backgradually. This facilitates a carefuland exact dealing with straw asbasis for successful mulch seeding. The harrow with its strong 12 mmthick tines is positioned between theconcave discs and following rollers.Working depth, angle setting and therange of giving are adjustable with-out tools via pin adjusters.

The straw harrow

The Smaragd is an ideal cultivatorfor the direct injection of slurry with-out emission. The slurry is full widthinjected directly behind the tines. The slurry will be covered with soil atthe same time.

Comfortable operation

Smaragd disc cultivators with a working width of 4 mand above are fitted with two separate rear rollers. Aspecial feature of the wider 5 and 6 metre models is apendulum suspension system which provides precisedepth control and even surface consolidation. So evenwider implements will work at a constant depth in unevensoil conditions. The outer tines are always positioned on the second rowof the Smaragd ensuring an equal guiding of the imple-ment. Therefore no support wheels are required evenwith wide working width models.

The depth control

For driving on public roads the sections will be simplyand fast hydraulically folded and automatically locked. This ensures a safe road transport even with wide work-ing width and the adherence of the transport heights andwidths. The vertical position of the folded sections withimplements creates clearance for the fitting of intermedi-ate crop- or granules distributors.

The transport

Page 11: Smaragd - Neu-Trek Kataloguste/smaragd_en.pdf · LEMKEN Smaragd and Solitair After stubble cultivation the LEMKEN combination of Smaragd and Solitair 9 KA is ideal for minimum tillage

High hectare performance

The pendulum compensation of the lower links enablesan optimum adaptation to ground conditions of the inde-pendently working sections. Due to the newly designedlower links the implement units rest on the carrier framewithout swinging in transport position. The two sided toplink bearing reduces wearing and significantly increasesendurance.

For especially high hectare performances LEMKEN of-fers the system carriers Gigant and Gigant 12. Withthese two Gigant variants working widths from 8 to 12metres can be realised for the Rubin, Heliodor or Kom-paktor as well. Two rigid working units can be attachedto its 3 point linkages. This saves the purchase costs foranother system carrier and the mounted implements canbe used individually with smaller tractors. The working units are folded hydraulically from workingto transport position and vice versa with only one doubleacting spool valve. Large diameter wheels minimise theground pressure and ensure safe transport on publicroads.

The Gigant 12 is based on the same trailer concept as theGigant, but additionally has a third wheel which reducesrear axle relief while driving on headlands. At the head-lands the working units are simply lifted by a spool valveand the following support wheel is pressed down at thesame time. Thus the manoeuvrability is excellently main-tained even with the large working width from up to 12metres. With this new Gigant 12 offers the possibility to enlargethe maximum working width for the Kompaktor from 10 to12, for the Rubin from 8 to 12 and for the Smaragd from10 to 12 metres.
