Quentin TarantinoQuentin Jerome Tarantino is an an American filmmaker and actor, his films are well known and characterized for being very violent, often featuring a non linear storyline, making references to popular culture and the films soundtrack. He has been greatly awarded for his work earning two Academy awards, two golden globe awards, two BAFTA awards and the Palme dOr. He has also been named one of the top 100 most influential people in the World by Time in 2005. Starting off his career as an independent filmmaker he release Reservoir dogs (1992) which became a classic, a cult hit and also named by Empire as the greatest independent film of all time. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in the film industry in December 2015.

Style of filmsTarantinos major breakthrough was his second film titled Pulp Fiction (1994) which was judged as the greatest film for 25 years by Entertainment Weekly. Tarantinos movies are very well known for including lots and lots of extreme violence, a non linear story line such as in Reservoir dogs and Pulp Fiction. His films are also well known for their soundtracks mostly having old music from the 1960s-1980s. The soundtrack is very key to his films and they help mold and set the tone for the movie.

Success and failuresSo far none of Tarantinos movies have been a failure and all have been considered very good successes his most successful being Pulp Fiction his second film and his highest grossing film being DJANGO UNCHAINED his seventh film. Tarantino has been harshly criticized for his films featuring lots of violence however it has attracted more audiences than critics and Tarantino has quoted that Violence is one of the most fun things to watch.

Practical task

For a practical task we had to make a short video in the style of the director we researched. Since you cant add a non linear story line into a short video I decided to focus on the violence and soundtrack.

Do they have specific actor/s they work with?Samuel L Jackson has featured in six of Tarantinos eight films in Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill: vol 2, Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. This makes SLJ the actor to feature in most Tarantino films and the top of the list of Tarantinos most significant actors. Other actors who have featured on several of Tarantinos films are actors such as Tim Roth and Uma Thurman who feature in at least two films but not many actors manage to feature in more than three of his films. Quentin Tarantino does himself often appear for a short scene within his own movies.

In Tarantinos films music is a very big part of his filming style, he said that he listens to music in his bedroom creating scenes that correlated to the music being played. His movies often feature very graphic blood, gore and violence. He often manipulates the use of commodities in order to propel the plots development, he often has bizarre props in a bizarre scene. He also uses brand names of his own creation within his films such as Big Kahuna Burger and Red Apple cigarettes in several of his movies as well as also connecting characters and movie plot lines.What is it I like about his directing style
